Up for sale is a great pair of floorstanding speakers with built in subwoofers. If you know these speakers, then you know they retailed for 4k MSRP. You'd be hard pressed to find better speakers than these for the price. I currently have 2 pairs and a center for if interested in a complete deal, all 5 identical speakers. I am the second owner but the speaker overall is in great shape. I have extra drivers as well.

The vast array of drivers produce tight bass and tight mids. They have a built in 300W 12" subwoofer. They are very efficient at 96db/1v/1watt and are great at home theater even powered by low wattage amps. Due to the thin baffle, the soundstage is HUGE, unparalleled by any speaker I have heard in my room.

Some of the drivers have already been refoamed at great expense. The 12" woofers are in great shape.

Here's some owners reviews: http://www.audioreview.com/mfr/infinity-systems/floorstanding-speakers/systems-p-fr-prelude/PRD_120950_1594crx.aspx
Product Specs: http://www.infinitysystems.com/home/products/product_detail.aspx?prod=IF70018&CheckProduct=Y&Language=ENG&Country=US&Region=USA

Asking 725 for a pair + drivers if interested,

Local pick up in 92841

Damn that is a deal! There was a pair local to me that just sold for $300 and one speaker was missing a few drivers. I've heard these before and thought they were great speakers. GLWTS!

They are a great speaker, and it's a shame people don't know more about them. All speakers from Infinity aren't so shabby. They can definitely give the Lsi's a run for their money! However I believe they are virtually unbeatable for the price for a surround sound system. I went searching for years around socal for all these speakers, and even had to disassemble a tower to construct a matching center. For HT, they are giants, especially due to their sensitivity, built in subs, and thin baffles.

Well, I must say they are some of the best speakers I have ever heard (top 5).
I heard them with some Bryston mono blocks and tube pre.
Unbelievable and it was a very large room to boot!

They are great speakers, and when you account for all the factors, its efficiency most of all it's just a bargain. Especially when you can save a bundle on amps. The high sensitivity allows you to play with lower powered tubes and class A SS amps with great success.

But I haven't had the chance to couple the speakers to Bryston amps and I bet these things would sound great in a much larger room than I have. I would definitely hold onto these if I had extra room for a proper HT setup, but unfortunately now they're just taking up space and they must go. Hopefully I won't regret it down the line.

Yeap you did. I guess Infinity chose to use foam with the paper cones. This was perhaps due to he overall design of the driver. But the majority of the woofers have been refoamed and should be good for another 10-15 years. No reason foam is worse off or anything, but IMO it's worth it for these speakers! I was using 5 of these speakers and had to refoam them but I still sucked it up and refoamed them to keep the speakers going.

Yes, Infinity used foam surrounds in their BEST speakers.
    Less mass?
I have some CS 3007 Crescendos that have foam surrounds.
I had mine refoamed after 10 yrs. of use, they last a very long time.

Back when I bought mine, I found a brand new CS 3007 for $99 (single speaker).
I had to pay $650 for the other one (for a pair) at Ultimate Electronics in Tulsa OK.
They were on sale at the time for $2399/pair (reg $2899/pr.)with FOAM SURROUNDS!

I'm sure the choice to use foam surrounds was not a cost option. These speakers were their flagship speakers and to cheap out on some rubber seems just madness. Foam was probably a technical decision to bring out the best of the driver. You can tell quality but just handling one of the 5" or 4" drivers. They have literally a 5-7lb magnet on them.

They used foam to achieve higher efficiency.

Yeap, after some perusing, I came up with the same conclusion. Foam seems to be used to easier attain a certain specification rather than using rubber or even fabric. But unfortunately everything ages and needs to be replaced but foam surrounds are more visible as they age, rubber surrounds tend to stiffen however less noticeably.

"Foam surrounds have just about the lowest distortion component spectra of any surround material.

Fabric has resonant modes ("flapping"), and rubber has hysteresis (non-uniform flexibility and energy storage, depending on deflection amount), among other problems. Both increase distortion beyond what an optimally-designed foam (or foam-impregnated fabric- Tannoy, among others, uses this) surround can do..."

"Any impedance mismatch will result in a reflected wave, whether it's up or down in impedance. You want to match the acoustical impedance of the surround to that of the cone as closely as possible and then use a well damped (like foam) material for the surround. That way you get most of the energy transfered to the surround and then eaten up by the damping."

New foam surrounds generally last longer than vintage foam due to better coatings too. So they may last 30+ years if kept out of direct sunlight, etc..

Thanks for the insight Face. That's actually very comforting to know, since most of my current speakers still use foam surrounds. I know they feel different and look different from the older surrounds but I mostly attributed this due to their age, but it seems newer surrounds used today have this light glossy coating to them to protect them.

I've owned a pair of these and they sounded fantastic...even with modest equipment. I'd snatch these in a second if they were local.

I'd have to agree. The only problem is not too many people know about these speakers.

Thanks! For their price, their sensitivity, soundstaging, they're a very unique speaker! As you can see from the ad, I once had the complete 5 speaker surround sound and wow... I only have the pair left and the center but the center is unfortunately quite banged up from improper storage.
