I am looking for a center channel to use w/SDA 1c's.

Found this deal online and was wondering if this will do the job.

    or a CS400i. Personally, I think the A6 is a tad bright for 1Cs.

    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B

CS10 will not do your SDA's justice. CS350 or CS400 are both good choices. Any models produced after those will be too bright to match well with your fronts.

Well found a CS 350 in great shape for $100. It matches well w/ the 1C's.

I sold my Def Tech CLR3000 so this was a downsizing. However I def came out ahead on the $$ end. Wife happy. I was afraid I would not have enough bass w/ the CS 350 and the 1C's but I was pleasantly surprised and actually thought the bass was better than my Def tech system (power monitor 900's and the CLR 3000)

Anyway another Polk speaker. That makes 9 "new" speakers in 90 days.

Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

I have SDA-1C's with the RD0-194 tweeters. I'm looking to replace my CS100 center. Which center(s) will be have the closest timbre matching to the 194's? Support suggested CS10/CS20/CSiA4 as far as what I can buy new. I can fit a center almost 8" tall on my lower shelf (effectively on the floor), or up to 5" tall on the upper shelf. Or I can try to mount them above the 54" plasma, which is on a HDTV stand.

Any strong mounts I can use to at least listen to the center oriented above the tv?

Well as things have evolved I no longer use a center channel. In fact I go rid of my 7 channel amp (replaced w/2 channel tube integrated) and only use a 2 channel setup. Works great for music and movies. That is how I now roll FWIW.

Place your ears perfectly in the center of the speakers while being equidistant, the same length as width between the speakers.

I am currently using a CS10 with my 1C's (with 194's) and it works fine. It was not a good match with the 2000's.

I've found the CSi40 to be a good match with my SDA1C's and 194's. I use an older model of this to mount the center above the TV. Barely visible, and very strong, max wieght of 100 lbs.

I'll be using a Monitor 10 with an RDO 194 for a center with my 1C's. Not that its the best use of a great monitor 10 but I dont have anywhere else to put it so...

Tried the phantom speaker and I didn't care for the dialog when not in the sweet spot. I would prefer a current product over vintage, easier to return if I don't like the sound. I think I'll try the CS20.

    I just sold a cs350 for way to cheap I still got a cs300 .
IMO I would go old school to match it up , kinda like putting centerlines on a 51 chevy it will never match .

The best match for a vintage Polk is a vintage Polk: Monitor 5,7, or 10. The bigger the better. Just make sure it uses the same tweeter as your fronts.

The best match for a 194 is a 194, the best match for an SL-2000 is an SL-2000. Period.

If you'd prefer to use something more modern, so that it won't sound as good, the CS-350LS does a good job matching the 194; it doesn't match the SL-2000 as well.

It appears the Monitor 5/7/10 all have their tweeters on the end of the enclosure. I can't fit that enclosure on the HDTV shelf. If I put it on the floor in front of the shelf then I find it tacky besides it being physically further out than the mains. If I mount it above the plasma, then it's really tall and I'd need to mount it upside down to keep the tweeter near the screen. I also don't know if those vintage speakers are shielded (may not be applicable to plasma though). If I mount it horizontally then I need to offset the speaker to center the tweeter between the mains which won't work with my shelf. So while this might be the ideal solution, it doesn't seem practical for my environment.

Any chance I can install a 194 tweeter in a more recent horizontal model without other side effects? I found a CS350LS for sale for $90 on the west coast, I'll see if I can grab it.

I just spoke with support again and got a different guy this time. He suggested, in order of preference, a CS400i, CS400, or a CS1000p.

That was exactly my thought when I read the OP's first post.

In my opinion, the SDA's phantom center channel is the best center out there. And then you can devote the money you would have invested in a center channel amp/cables toward improving your 2-channel amplification.

By the way, your center channel needs to be centerlined on the horizontal line running between your left and right channel tweeters (if you have a tweeter array, the line height is established as the arrays measured mean decibel average). If you place a center 3 feet above that horizontal line, you need to place a second center 3 feet below that horizontal line.

So as in the image below, the white horizontal line is slightly above the distance between the 2 tweeter cones as I believe the 1C slightly rolls off the lower tweeter. A second center needs to be added below the line as the first center was added above the line.
