Hi All; How good of a set of cables do I really need to connect my preamp to the power amp and the cd player to the preamp? My system includes a Denon cd player, Adcom GTP-500 preamp, a Nakamichi PA5-II power amp and the 2.3TL's. Any ideas on this one? Thanks:smile:

Nope. Not without a budget in mind. Any Rat-Shack IC's will "do the job" but if you want to go further in your audio journey....it would help us to help you if you had a budget in mind.

Rca cables, one for each channel from pre to amp, also if the pre doesn't have an optical input to hook up the cdp, then one more for each channel from cdp to pre.

General rule is 10% of the price of all your gear. Audiogon has the best selection of good used cables.

OK, should have given a price range. I would like to stay within $100.00 for two sets of cables. The ones that are being used now are the .99 cent cheapo cables. They do work and the sound is good but I was hoping for even better sound with a good set of cables.

These Blue Jeans LC-1 cables will be just fine.

$31 per 3 ft pair, or $34 if you want them dressed up a bit in a Techflex outer jacket, plus shipping. They are extremely well made and just as good or better than most cables out there, IMO. They also send them Priority Mail and accept PayPal. They are in Seattle so you would get them in just a couple days.

Some stores will let you try a set of cables. I tried a pair that cost $125+ several years ago comparing them with a pair of well made cables costing $25. I couldn't hear a difference.

Well cable art is in the eye of the beholder....or should I say ear?

Go to MonoPrice.com unless you are one of the few who can hear a difference.

I would gather it's more than a few. To each his own though, last thing we need is another cable debate.

Jim, monoprice and bluejeans is a good starting point on a budget. Also consider signal cable. Cables are like ice cream, lots of flavors, just have to find the right ones that match your taste. I'm probably the only one who relates audio cables to ice cream.

Stay away from generic cables {unknown} makers. Radio Shack or names like Phillips,Belkin for starters are good line of cables and helps if your in a certain budget range. I use Belkin audio cables for my 2 channel system and components. THX for my home theatre system and Belkin optical cables for my SACD components.
