Zombies ahead...

This sign is on the road home...drove by it this weekend..had all cars slowing down to read :)

FORT MILL Two electronic road signs on S.C. 160 near the York-Lancaster county lines were apparently tampered with sometime before 4 a.m. Sunday, said Lance Cpl. Billy Elder of the Highway Patrol.

One sign read "Zombies Ahead" and rotated to "Watch for Hunters." On the other side of the road, another sign read "Be alert for Tanks."

Those signs, typically used to alert drivers to road construction or changes in traffic patterns, still displayed those incorrect messages Sunday night.

"I don't know if the signs got hacked remotely or if someone tampered with them on scene," Elder said.

Troopers notified the South Carolina Department of Transportation about the signs being changed. It is not known if the signs are operated by the DOT or a private construction company, Elder said.

The sign was turned off Sunday night.

Either way, there are no known zombies on Highway 160 near Fort Mill.

I was once looking at a well traveled road side property. I thought it would be fun to put one of those signs along the road and post silly stuff like that.

Making people smile is always a good thing. You just need to keep it brief so people don't need to slow down to get the point.

Until we get these borders secured, zombies will be an on-going problem.

A while back a website posted a guide to hacking those signs relatively easily - basically they found that a majority of them were left completely unlocked. Soon after most places cracked down, but apparently not all :)

Funny or not, tampering with road signs is morally wrong and dangerous to drivers. I really hope it doesn't happen when your child/mother/grandfather is in an ambulance and is blocked by a hacked sign.

Yep, it used to be quite easy using just a older keyboard with a 5-pin DIN connector. Apparently, it still is on some of them.
