If I would rectify 120vac to get 150-170vdc, could I do another rectifier to get 300 to 340vdc under load?

What your looking for is a voltage multiplier circuit.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voltage_multiplier

Not enough current, may need 300+ watts.

Why isn't enough current? You would only need about an amp for 300W+ at 300V.

You can use the simple, cheap and effective DC step up from Fred link or you can use DC to DC Converter. The caps at high voltage may be a bit costly if you want to have high current supply. Or you can use a small step up AC transformer and then rectify to DC. It's probably cheaper and easier with the AC transformer.

    Don't rectify 120vac without a transformer.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

Ben said it right. And I'll add to what he said. Don't do it without a proper rating fuse too.

This for a HHO Hydrogen idea I have to run my 4Runner on. I was thinking of using a 12vdc inverter to 120vac then rectified to 170vdc. I need to run some test first, but may use a 12vdc inverter to 240vac to rectify to 340vdc or so.

Then maybe you could find a suitable step up transformer to follow the invertor.

Good luck with that. It hasn't been successful done yet as far as I know as the electrolysis is far too slow.
