I just bought a Nakamichi Stasis receiver (SR-3A) to play around with. I figured it had the Nelson Pass amp section and would be worth a listen. I also figured its probably the only Nelson Pass gear I would be able to afford. Has anyone here owned one of these ? Looking for feedback. Cheers.

Yes, I have owned a couple. I also sold these in the 80's when they were new. I recently had one for awhile in my office rig running a pair of 5B's. Nice technology for the day. I still regard these as some the best sounding receiver's made. Stasis really is a nice design. The SR series was nicer in build and quality than the TA series which were the same thing that came out a little later.

They tend to be built proof and if Nak gear is well taken care of all the displays should still work. I had a service manual for it up until last year when I sold it on Ebay. Only downside is parts are non-existent and not sure all repair shops would be able to work on it.

I was a Nak-head in the 80's and 90's and owned several cassette decks, including the Dragon. Also owned a few cdp's. I owned a Nakamich CA 5 pre-amp for almost 20 years, bought it new and kept it a long time, a very nice piece of gear. Always liked the build quality and the sound was excellent. Early Nak gear was very well built and designed even though many times they borrowed from others. Nelson says they paid him well when he licensed the use of the Stasis circuit to them. He says they used it pretty much unchanged in the PA5 and PA7 amps and just scaled it down a little for use in the receivers.

I need a work shop rig in my new house and I will probably buy another one of these. If you decide to pass it on please let me know and give me first shot at buying it.

    Enjoy

That (work shop rig) is exactly what mine will end up being. I can't wait to try it out with some Barry Diament Led Zep recordings. I noticed there was an SR-4a on Ebay today. Mine is the 3a, any idea on the diferences ?

I'll note that. It looked from the pics like it was taken care of very well.

Sr4a had more power, remote and variable loudness.

So the SR-3A didn't have a remote ? I am asking because I was going to look for one if it exists.

No....ha...ha. I have a story about that. I thought it had a remote too and mine didn't come with one so I bought a remote off ebay before I even had the SR-3A in my possession. When I got the unit I realized it wasn't remote capable. So I had to resell the remote
