Ripping CD's to FLAC

So I think MediaMonkey is a go for sure. The only sucky thing is it wont sync w/ my Zune, but I figured that would be the case.
Now I just need to research the dbPoweramp program to see if I am going to use it to augment MediaMonkey or not....Yes it can, but there is no secure mode or other alternative capabilities like dB Poweramp.
If funds are limited, it get MM and be done and use it as a ripper too. One program, one player, one database, it does a lot.
I realize not everyone cares to extract in secure mode and all the other anal stuff one should do to keep the integrity of the music. I was pointing out that there is a difference and what that difference is.
H9
No worries, I appreciate you pointing out the differences. With a 3 week trial I honestly might be able to rip all my music to the computer by then and then just buy Media Monkey (40 bucks) when I have some extra funds. 40 bucks is worth it to keep being able to get fix's, upgrades forever IMHO lol....
Depending on the cost of dbpoweramp I might buy that one first lol..."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
I've been using dBpoweramp ripping to FLAC along w/ J. River Media Center. Both exceptional programs especially for a computer novice like myself. I'm planning on a SONOS system with my modded Music Hall dac as my new front end. Hey Phil cool!
I am curious why the Sonos over the Squeezebox? I have a friend that has an audio store and he sells Sonos only because of the Apple compatibility.
I was just curious what you thought about the two streamers.

I am thinking I am going to go ahead and do dbPoweramp and just pray I can get all my stuff (and lots of my Dads lol) ripped in 21 days lol...
thankfully w/ a 4.0 quad core cpu, 8 gigs of memory and a 7200 rpm hdd I am thinking the rips shouldnt take forever lol... especially with its ability to use multiple cores"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Hey Brock: From what I found from all my research on the many servers out there the Sonos is the best fit for my needs. I'm going for the ZP90, ZP120, & CR 200 bundle package. This takes care of my main system along with the pool deck. Down the road I'll probably add the S5 speaker for the dining room.
It's just so simple to use & is it's own internal network. The thing just works! I heard a number of guys complaining about the SB being a bit unreliable. True or not I really don't know although a friend of mine has a modded SB & he did have a few issues. He's a computer guy so it really wasn't a big deal. I'm not a computer guy so that kind of swayed me a bit. I probably wouldn't know what to do if it went on the fritz.
The Sonos anaolg sound is not too shabby but really opens up when used in tandom with an external dac. Mine should fit the bill nicely. I have the Bugle boy & the EAT tubes to play with as my listening moods change.
Stephen from Quest for Sound did all the mods on the dac which included all DynamiCaps, analog output mods, Burson op-amps (I did them ) & a few other mods he'll be telling me aboout. He had it playing in his shop to burn it in & quite a lot of customers were immediately impressed with how good it's sounding. Stephen is even quite taken back on how well things turned out. I'm stoked & should have it in a couple of days.
I'm just getting lazy lazy in my old age & want all my music at my fingertips. No more trips to the CD player for me!"2 Channel & 11.2 HT "Two Channel:Magnepan LRSSchiit Audio Freya S - SS preConsonance Ref 50 - Tube preParasound HALO A21+ 2 channel ampBluesound NODE 2i streameriFi NEO iDSD DAC Oppo BDP-93KEF KC62 sub Home Theater:Full blown 11.2 set up. -
Cool, I've had 2 Squeezboxes and a Squeeze radio, not a single issue. But it sounds like you've got it figured out. You won't go back to a conventional cdp once you go with a server/streamer.

No doubt the SB is an excellent product. But I have to go with the Sonos for my needs (keeping my wife in mind). I'll be giving feedback once all is up & running. By the way do you subscripe to any availabe music programs? Question for the masses:
dbPoweramp has a free 21 day trial (link). EAC is totally free forever.
Of the two (which seem to do a lot of the same thing) which do you prefer and why?
The main things I see in dbpoweramp over EAC is firstly documentation lol, and secondly the mutiple encoding at one time + secure rip + multiple CPU core usage...."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
dB Poweramp is easier to configure properly than EAC. I used EAC for about 6-8 years and loved it. I just find dB Poweramp more convenient and user friendly and it's faster than EAC. I admit it's probably been 3 year or more since I've used EAC so perhaps they have made some upgrades to make it faster and easier to use.
EAC is another great program as it rips secure copies and gives you feedback on possible errors it encounters during extraction.

I'm a dBpoweramp user, in addition to what the guys are saying above I also find it to be the easiest ripper I've used in regards to integrating album art.
Foobar to play back, J. River is nice and is a total media center solution, but it isn't free.Wristwatch--->Crisco -
Back when I used EAC there was no way to integrate cover art, that was a seperate step done with another program like Media Monkey. That may have changed since the last time I used EAC."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Been about a year since I used EAC but it was the same thing then as well.Wristwatch--->Crisco -

Newer version allows for you to add art, as well as some general interface improvements. You still have to read up a little to get a good handle on configuring it, though. I remember that setting up the encoder of choice was a little confusing, but there are some good tutorials out there if you search. The hydrogenaudio forum is good, IIRC. -
My agenda tomorrow:
- Download and Install dbpoweramp: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/cd-ripper.htm
- Follow the CD Ripper Secure Ripping Setup Guide
- Add Additional Codecs (WMA, m4a)
- Install DSP Effects
- Download and Install Media Monkey: http://www.mediamonkey.com/download/
- Download these apps: Subsonic web-based Media Streamer, Jammix Enhancer
- Start ripping

Yeah that would get old quick...
I plan to use Media Monkey ONLY on my FLAC stuff to start with. I like the Zune Media Player skin they have so I will use that as well, but I have soo much other crap in non-FLAC mode I want to put the FLAC on a totally independent drive and then re-encode 320 kbps songs from those and use those in my regular library.
Once all that is done I will have it look at all my other music and catalog it lol....
I cant wait to finally get the darned ID3 tags corrected on a bunch of stuff I downloaded in my college days
Eventually I want to get all my music on one drive, but it will be a bit before that happens. Step 1 is re-encoding all the CD's I have in FLAC. From there I can take my time converting"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." how many Cds do you have to rip? I had around 500 and its taken me about a month, but that's b/c I usually don't have time to just sit down and rip for hours on end.. if i'm watching tv though I try to get around 10 done at a time. I should be all ripped this weekend YAY!Main 2ch -

TT - Pro-ject Classic SB with Sumiko Bluepoint.

I have probably around 100 (not counting the ones I plan to steal from my Dad to rip ) but plan to spend all day Saturday encoding & cleaning out some closets at the same time lol.....
Plus with the ability to use multiple cores at once I should be ok. I have a 4 core overclocked 4.0 Ghz processor + 8 gigs of memory. I am hoping that plus my blu-ray drive should be fast enough I can be ripping 4 songs at the same time.....
AND I have a laptop and desktop.... so when it hits 21 days on the desktop....I still have another 21 days to use the 3 core laptop"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Funny thing is, I prefer it that way! They're "The Beatles", not just Beatles. At least I choose to think so... -
Change the date in the bios and you can keep on ripping;)Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

I get lazy and don't scroll down far enough to see the T's too often. Haven't

I know what you mean...
I've fallen victim to that myself, which is why I've always avoided putting any ABBA in my collection.
You should probably try renaming them to The Cowboy Junkies.
Edit: Googled it... Derrr.. except they're just Cowboy Junkies... but it would shake things up for you! -

So I couldn't wait so I started early "....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
So funny problem, Media Monkey wont load on my computer lol....
It loads in Task Manager but thats it. When I go to end task it finally opens up but then obviously gets killed.
I think I might need to re-install it. So far the ripping has been going somewhat quick with most of my CD's. Eminem took like 3 hours to do though lol...."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Yes, I find it faster to rip in burst mode, rather than secure. Most of my CDs rip accurate and those that have an inaccurate track or two, I take to a second computer I have and let it chug through secure mode. This keeps things moving for me.
I did run across two disks that were impossible to rip accurately - R.E.M.'s Green, and Tool's Undertow (Sorry Larry! - Yes, I used and abused it...) After recalling the recent "torrent" thread, I'm considering a download of these two... -

Probably because the disc had errors that needed to be reconciled during the extraction process. This will happen at times with certain discs. The reason it took so long is it was analyzing the extraction errors and trying to correct them. Did you get notification is was accurately extracted finally? Sometimes the errors can't be reconciled. It happens. That doesn't mean the rip sounds bad it just means it couldn't reconcile the errors to give you a bit perfect, secure rip.

Yeah its no biggie that it took that long, I just set it and forget it. Doing spring cleaning in the office today so I can just throw them in as they finish.
Its actually ripping pretty fast at about 15 mins or less per CD. I dont have a massive library so I am not too worried."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." my 1 & 1/2 cents worth... I use winamp (it really kicks the lama's ****) to rip my CDs to flac files. Never had a single problem with it yet.
