I'm waiting to see if this impacts my company very much. For the most part I think our supply chain of what we buy from Japan is ok, so I have been told. What might impact us the most (we produce automated circuit board assembly equipment) would be the shortage of silicon wafers and semi conductors in general. If those become short in supply our customers will not have components to build boards, so they may not be to willing to invest in machines to build them.

Not to mention the stock market falling. If it continues the way it did with the housing bubble/bank fiasco many companies seemed to go into a protect mode and stopped spending and started hording their cash.

And a little bit longer term with oil. I think not only the Fukushima plant but others damaged will not return to service. Leaving a large gap in the energy needs. I have doubts that they will build any more nuke plants, even if they choose to, the construction time is so much longer than oil fired plants, they will probably, as soon as possible, build many of these to try and recover from the economic hit this will have on them. Then watch the price of crude.

The part of the story discussing Subaru production here in Indiana is false... They scaled back on any overtime production for now and will reassess the situation over the weekend. What I have heard is that they will be able to keep running through Wednesday without resupply from Japan, and they are looking into airfreight to keep things moving. Toyota production at SIA will also continue.
