I pained on getting this onkyo blue ray and then I ran across this review and it had me 2nd geussing myself. This review claims that the onkyo doesn't support netflixs but on onkyos page it shows that it does.

I plain on using my blue ray for movies(netflix and blu ray etc.) and listening to my cd's. I already have the onkyo 708 receiver that's why I wanted this blu ray to match it up. The Oppo looks interesting also but I'm obviously open for suggestions.

I've been quietly shopping for a Blu Ray player myself that would be used for movies only ... not too interested in streaming.

I have Onkyo's DX7555 CD player from a couple years back and, IMO, it's an awesome piece both from performance and build quality. Logic suggested I consider Onkyo's BDP as well - and I'm still looking. I'm more in to items that are built well and do what they're supposed to do and much less intersted in missing features I don't use.

I saw this review and found it a bit short on specifics. I may look further for more in depth reviews of this machine but right now just coasting though not ruling this unit out because of this article.

IMO, the best bang for the buck in BR players is the Sony PS3.

PS3 is an obvious choice if you want 'do it all'. If you want "audiophile grade", then Oppo is another obvious choice :).

I just got my dad the Sony 570 model (which has been replaced by the 580.)

It does 3d as well, and had a built in wireless device as well. Took me about 2 minutes to get it on his network.

I was surprised at all the features Sony packs in there. Netflix was there, but also Pandora, Slacker, NPR, youtube, and a bunch of other streaming media sources.

Very very solid player for 150-200, but I'm sure the Oppo is much nicer in the end.

+1 on the oppo, I have had a little experence with it.....works everytime, extremely fast load time. I beleive the best in the indestry, excluding the ps3. My boss has it and he is a SERIOUS audiofile. He has had problems with failures on several of the onkyo.

I have been using the Oppo BDP83 since July 2009 without any issues. Great picture, and since I have an old AVR that does not decode the new formats, I let the Oppo do it, and then send it to the AVR as PCM. It sounds fantastic. If you want all the latest bells and whistles, get the new Oppo BDP93. It is the same list price as the BDP 83.
