I need advise from the polk forum . I want to either replaCE MY 505 with a better sub ,like SVS ,Velodyne or i reaaly like the Epik legend. Or should i by another 505 and have a 6.2 system. My room is approx 12x20, i mainly use for HT and Music. I was very close to buying a used Velodyne or a Polk 8" 2000 .The 2000 look nice but i didnt think replacing my 12" 505 with a 8" woulnd be better. The last minute i changed my mind .Please give options ?

IMHO, the downsizing of the sub isn't really that big of a concern. While the 505 is a solid sub, the 2000 is a totally different class of sub, and eventhough it may have been a lot smaller the 2000 has a continuous output of 1200W, whereas the 505's is 300W. The 2000 has a Dynamic output of 2400W, and the 505's is 460W. The overall frequency range for the 2000 is 22-200Hz, and the 505's is 23-160Hz. By the numbers the 2000 is a superior sub to the 505, regardless to it's size, IMHO. SVS, Velo, and Epik are all very good choices when it comes to subs, some of the best in the business are made by those companies. It is all up to you and your budget, you can easily spend more than your entire HT just on a "quality sub" alone. It's the main reason why I have never listened to another sub besides my PSW125 for too long, because it will make me want to go out and buy something better, lol. Adding another 505 is an option for you, like I said, it is a quality sub for the price. It is sometimes tough to get 2 subs, even if identical, situated properly and to play nice with one another, but def. an option. Some of the more experienced Sub guys will chime in I'm sure, just be prepared to open up the wallet for what you may be asking for, lol. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. You put my thoughts into words. You summerized my situation. The more i lok ,the more questions i have. The polk 2000 was a good deal, the seller wanted 275... that seems to be a good price. about half off .

That's the funny thing about hindsight, it is always 20/20, lol. What may not have seemed like a good idea at the time, always seems better when you look back at it later. Gather up as much information as you can by doing research, looking at reviews, listening to the advice here, and testing a few out if possible. In the end it will all come down to funds available, and what you can get your hands on that you will be happy with. The guys here won't steer you wrong, good luck.

Question. If i bought the Polk 2000 and kept my 505. Would keeping both sub be a bad idea. I just check the craigs list and the seller drop the price. Just thinking out loud. I klove the bass ,if i wasnt married i`d set the sub so the windows would rattle. Any thoughts on the different subs.

Good advise. It all comes down to money. I could buy the 2000 and start saving to replace the M70 with RTai9. Thats my long term set up.

When running more than one sub, it is "ideal" to have them be pretty close to the same. Is it impossible to setup two different subs? No, but it can be difficult to get them to play nice with eachother, but it can be done. If you can spare the cash, and the time to fiddle around with getting the 2000 to integrate with your system, it is an option for you. So is saving up the cash and buying a sub that will outperform those two subs combined. Hopefully someone else will chime in soon with some more guidance.

If the dsw 2000 and 505 dont sound good together , i could sell the 505 and keep the better dsw. Also when i replace the fronts with the Rt the Recommended Subwoofers
are the dsw line. Just too many choice`s ..

That is also an option that I forgot to mention in my last post, I see you have your wrapped around this pretty well. Try not to pull your hair out over this, but it can be a nerve racking ordeal, esp. when we are talking about your hard earned money, lol.

Again, two much different subs. I would give the nod to the MicroPro still, but that is my unproffesional opinion.

+1 about difficulty getting different subs to play nice. I had to tweak a LOT to get my LSi25s' subs and PSW1000 to integrate well together, and even then I know one solid sub would be better than their combination. Congrats on picking up the MP2k though. That's a mighty little sucker! If you end up not liking it, or decide to upgrade even moreso, there are plenty of guys around here who would take it off your hands.

    Cheers!

Jim is right, that 2000 is a really good sub, esp. for the price. Congrats on getting it and let us know how it works out. You may just end up running that one and not needing your 505 anymore, lol.

Bought the DSW2000. Looks nice, has a much more clear deeper sounding bass then the 505. Its lots smaller then the 505 seems to be much more power. still playing aorund with the settlings. I think LOTR would be a good dvd to test the bass. Ended up paying $250.00.. I think thats a good price, the sub is less then a year old, came with all the parts, micr, remote, manual, box.

Excellent, good snag. I figured you would be impressed with it, it is a good sub, regardless of it's size. Keep us posted on your findings and what you decide to do about having 2 subs or just keeping the 2000.

I`ve got the DSw2000 aLL SET working fine.I made a Good choice, thanks to the advise in this form. I`m very happy with the sound and this is a real nice subwoofer. Sounds good with my other Polk speakers. My future plan is to replace everything with the Rt seriers. I`m now halfway there.I just sold my 505. I didnt see any advantage trying to use both the sub`s.
