First time post, I've been lurking for a month or so. I just got a Dell XPS 15. I used to have a Dell Studio xps.

I I got a 2009 model Pioneer VSX-519 for $100 on craigslist, it worked great with the xps 1640, doesn't work at all with the xps 15. I use it to play downloaded movies and blu-ray disks. I'm gonna try again tomorrow. I could use any advise or information you guys an:cool:d gals have.

thank You

Josh.

ok your trying play movies from your pc-avr-tv? or just have the pc-avr just for the audio and watch it on the computer?

Either way it should work, I have an HP laptop that Ive plugged in via HDMI and it works through my Pioneer 1020k. You might have to go into the system settings on your computer and fiddle with the hmdi settings.

I'm trying to watch movies, files(.mkv mostly), dvds and blu-rays. from my pc through my Pioneer to my Optoma HD66. I built a 140" screen out of spandex and blackout material. It's totally badass. My speakers are not good, but I'll get into that later. I get nothing but my pc screen flickering here and there. The Optoma does not recognize the source at all. BTW this pc work well with my Denon in my living room. I'm going back to work on it today.

You should list all your gear, cables, etc. More people will chime in. It's probably a handshake issue honestly. Also, the 519 has hdmi?

    All of my gear:

Dell XPS 15 laptop w/hdmi out nvidia 420m graphics card
Pioneer VSX-519V 2 hdmi in 1 hdim out
    Optoma HD66 projector
    Sony tower speakers
    Sony center
    Onkyo sub
    Insignia Rears

I have a Comcast HD DVR box into one hdmi and I'm trying to use the other hdmi for the laptop. It works great with the HDDVR, but I get nothing with the XPS laptop. It's quite frustrating.

Is the new laptop configured to output a display through HDMI? If it worked with the old laptop but not the new its unlikely that the receiver is the problem

Yeah. I use the laptop in my living room with a Denon. The video cuts out every few minutes nut comes right back on. It's annoying, but at least it works for the most part. I get nothing with the Pioneer.

That is strange. Can you try running hdmi directly from the laptop to Optoma? That'll at least show if the receiver is the broken link

If it cuts out on one, and nothing on the other, your laptop has the issue. Update to the newest driver, and use a new hdmi cable.

Yeah I ran the pc to the projector and it worked. I'm at a loss here. I hope someone knows something about this here.

What OS, Win 7? Your drivers up to date?

Windows 7 64 bit. Newest drivers updated yesterday by dell online tech. He remotely logged into my computer and checked everything. I'm totally stumped.

Worst case scenario, you may have to run the HDMI straight to the TV, and then run an audio out to your AVR to get the sound there. If it sends sound of course; my laptop only sends video via hdmi.

I've been leaning towards Extended display identification data as the problem. I have no idea how to fix it, but I'LL let you guys know when I figure it out.

I still haven't fixed it. I wish it worked as good as my Polk and Denon system in my living room.

If I where you I would reset the unit. I mean a hard reset. I will connect the PC and while everything is on I would run the MCACC.

Yeah, I tried to reset the receiver. I'll try it again. It's really a mystery, I have no idea why this doesn't work. Especially since it worked with my old computer, both dell XPS laptops.

Are you setting it up as an extended display or a duplicate display? Does your computer even recognize the second display at all?

I would definitely connect it directly to the display to make sure. EDID is usually suspect when you can't get the right resolution/refresh rate... generally, most modern equipment will at least produce a picture.
