I have replaced a few in my day. I always order parts from StewMac. What is exactly do you mean by non-slotted?

some guitars have a slot that the nut slides into...mine just sits there with glue to hold it in place

Surely there's a synthetic replacement, no?

Sure there is. Check StewMac.com for Tusq, Micarta....

Mike, I have had literally 100's of guitars over the last 25 years. Not sure I have ever seen one where the nut slides into a slot. I prefer guitars with locking nuts myself, like Floyd Rose or Kahler Spyder equiped guitars though.

There are other options out there than just replacing it with a standard bone or plastic nut. I would suggest a roller nut perhaps. I want to put one of a Warmouth strat I have but haven't gotten around to it yet.

    Here is a pic...

thanks for the replies...i ordered a Tusq replacement nut...i'm going through everything..pots, switch, pickups, tuners, jack and tailpiece..this one is a survivor! to me it's much prefered over the strats i've owned and played..i'm pondering whether to 'block' the tremelo or upgrade the wammer

    thanks

Mike, post some pics dude! I am guessing with it having a standard nut it also has a standard type tremolo? I am not a fan of blocking a tremolo. Why are you thinking of doing this? Tuning issues perhaps?

Also there are some DIY guys that will take a cow bone. Guessing rib bone. Boil it to soften it and flatten it. Then cut it making there own true bone nut for their guitars.
