Hi,
I bought a used pair of Rti12 speaker 2 years ago I have an amp Yamaha rxv1900 with was not able to drive them (lake of base) so I recently purchase 2 Rotel RB-980BX (use in mono mode) I turned the volume at -20 and there goes my tweeter. It?s the first time in my life I blow a tweeter and I am a bit concerned. Those speakers are supposed to be 500W! How can it be?
Is this an often failure on Polk?
Thanks

Marty, this is definitely NOT a common Polk failure.
Nor any other Audio company, either, to be exact.
The fact that you ran your used Rti12's for several years on Yahmaha gear with no problems, than blew them when you switched to a set of Rotel RB-980BX (had to have bought used), would seem to indicate the problem definitely lies elsewhere in the chain.
What are/were you using as a pre-amp ?
Wiring hookups can be found here for the Rotels:

Also, you'll receive a lot more help/assistance/input if you post this question here:

That's the "TroubleShooting" forum. Good luck !Sal Palooza -
Were you using your Yamaha rxv1900 to drive your Rotels ?
..... if so, how did you hook things up ?Sal Palooza -
Yes, the Yamaha is my preamp. I am using my front pre amp output to the Rotels. It?s been working fine. I know the Rotel has a lot of power but still, I would expect busting a mid or a sub before a tweeter! I called an audio store trying to find a new tweeter and the guy told me that I have to change the tweeter on both speakers in other to keep them equilibrated. According to him, the tweeter sound change with age and changing only one will cause a noticeable difference between them. I don?t know it that thru it never happened to me before. I am still trying to find the replacement part.
Thanks for taking the time to reply -
New development in my story, I got a free tweeter from Polk, very fast shipping, excellent service. P.S. the fact of mentioning that I was a Club Polk member probably did help.

Feel lucky because they took 3 weeks to get me some new tweeters. I first had to ship them mine and then I had to wait for their 7 days to diagnose the blown tweeters send me new ones :frown: . Talk about considering a different brand speaker next time.Pioneer vsx-1120k, B&K Sonata series video-5 amplifier, Polk Rti8, Fxi3, Csi5, and HSU VTF-1
