Doesn't show much at all but I'll be damned if this comes anywhere near the greatness that was the original.

That comment gave me a good laugh for a Saturday morning. -

I agree but if it gets them back on track to do the whole series like originally intended..... they can sure as hell outdo the second one, lol geeeez that sucked! I don't think they will outdo the soundtrack thats for sure. -
I agree that there's no reason to remake this... but at least they've got a stable of hot women for it. Rachel Nichols, Rose McGowan and Katarzyna Wolejnio... all pretty hot.
It'll probably be good dumb fun... but no way in hell it will be as good as the original.Equipment list:

Another classic bites the dust to a needless remake. I wouldn't mind seeing the original via Blue Ray if it was available (?)
-
Hmmm...I'd much rather see 'the film industry' follow thru on the long rumored making of "Elric".

I feel that the original really only paid lip service to the lamentations of the women. I would like to see a lot more lamentation in the remake.

Y'know, we keep calling this a remake... but there's no Thulsa Doom, so can we really call it that?Equipment list:

Agreed. Just like the Cohens' True Grit was really more of a separate adaptation of the same source material than a true remake of the original movie, this seems like it's not a remake per se. If that's the case, though, they should have ditched the name Conan the Barbarian since none of Howard's novels actually refer to him that way. -
I take my words back, this looks fantastic!

I don't know....the original cast was pretty campy and had a just out of a Mr. Olympia win Arnold?
Will probably see it anyway. Trailers are too cryptic so far?

Looks like they're doing a good job of making the movies appear more like the art work from the paperback book covers. Agree that the Arnold movies were campy with budget special effects, but they were fun and came out more than 25 years ago so it's time for an update. Since one of the new images is of Conan walking across a field of skulls, there's a good chance there will be blood and gore. Better be an R rating to keep up with HBO!

From AVS...
I just read this statement by the writer for the new Conan regarding the rating:
Writer Sean Hood addressed those concerns with a posting on Quora:
"The world of Hyboria, as Robert E. Howard described it, is fleshy and brutal. Bloody beheadings and bare-chested slave girls abound. However, while the movie is unflinching in its depiction of barbarism, slavery and warfare, the violence and nudity emerge from the fabric of the story. It isn't gratuitous.
Robert E. Howard's stories, although violent and perverse for their time, were not intrusively graphic either. So this is ultimately a movie about the character Conan, a character that will hopefully launch a healthy franchise of movies with stories and characters that celebrate Robert E. Howard's work. Yes, you'll see blood and ****, but this isn't a Cinemax movie; it's epic action/fantasy.
And yes, it's rated R."

Granted trailers can be deceiving, but....from what I saw this just seems to be a variation on the first Conan movie.
From some additional digging on wikipedia on the screenplay/plot....
Yes - already saw Conan as a boy growing up in his "barbarian" clan
Yes - already saw Conan's father teach him about the "riddle of steel"
Yes - already saw Conan's clan be attacked and his father killed by an evil bad guy
Yes - already saw Conan fight a big gi-hu-normous snake
Yes - already say Conan become fixated on killing the killer of his clan/father
The Conan books have a wealth of stories and plots to begin a new 'franchise' - the trailer and the available plot seems to be more rehashing of the first movie.
I've also heard that the actor playing Conan makes Arnold seem like a Mensa member......

However, the character was intelligent, spoke his lines well and I liked him during the time I watched that series. So, what you see in the trailer and as Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones is what the director wants, not that he's a moron. We'll have to see.
Fair enough.
I'm a Conan fan - have the first 10 original issued Ace Paperbacks with the Frazetta covers, and a couple of nice hardbound editions. So I'm familiar with the stories - Conan ain't a dumb barbarian.
Just seems like those doing the remake only used the original movie as a template.

There was plenty of blood and some ****. I was the weakest of the movies I've seen this year. I'm glad it was only a $5 matinee special. This is one of the summer movies that I won't be purchasing the disc. Having seen it I will say it is a rental at best....but would at least recommend you do that. Afterall...it is Conan...and you need to compare it to the original."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais
