I'm looking for a TT for my son, it will be paired with Yamaha CA-800 and a pair of Monitor 7's. I've found a Technics SL-1301 for $70, is this a good fit and is it a good buy on the TT? I checked the threads for info on the TT, couldn't find any info. Thanks

Check out Vinyl Engine (http://www.vinylengine.com/phpBB2/index.php) for lots of info. They have manuals in the library which should be helpful. I have the semi-automatic SL-1710mk2 which I like very much. There is less to go wrong than on a fully automatic turntable like the SL-1301, an important consideration with thirty year old turntables. The SL-1301 has quartz lock direct drive which is rock solid compared to the servo controlled direct drive turntables. But if everything works properly on the SL-1301 then $70 is a good price.

That's a very good price for a 1301 that is in good working condition. I've had a 1700 since 1977 and it still works just as it did when it was new. The dust covers are usually cracked near the hinges but that doesn't mean a lot if they still go up and down. Your son should be very happy with your choices.TO ERR IS HUMAN. TO FORGIVE IS CANINE.
