TV Riser 2 by Wood Technology (Pics / Review)

Well I finally got my TV Riser 2 by Wood Technology. It is used to raise your TV up about 8 inches and allows you to place a center channel under it. I have a TV stand that resembles a coffee table. It isn't very high so you kind of look down at the TV. The TV Riser 2 is rated at 120 lbs so it wasn't a problem supporting my 50" LG Infinia Plasma.

The TV Riser 2 is made in the USA and made up of hard wood. I cant tell you exactly which kind because the riser I bought is the black / ebony one. You have to assemble it your self. There are 3 sets of holes to screw the 2 camber lock pins in. This way you can adjust the width of the legs. I put mine clear on the outside that way I would have maximum room underneath the TV. The two bottom legs are held on with camber locks. If you have ever put any kind of wood furniture together you have used these. They have the long metal pins / screws that have a round head on them. Then the other piece has the big philips or allen head disk. You put the two pieces together and turn the disk a 1/4 turn and it grabs the head of the steel pin and locks together.

I decided to over engineer mine. I put 2 dry wall or sheet rock screws from the top side down in to the legs as a just in case measure. If you chose to do this then it is much easer to predrill the holes with it apart. That way you can use a ruler and pencil to draw a line between the holes that you are using. Drill the holes in the top deck. Then put the legs on and use the holes in the deck as a guide to drill the holes in the legs.

Then I took one side apart use a dremal to remove the black finish from where the legs rest on the underside of the deck, and on the ends of the legs that meet the deck. I just used the two holes for the camber pins as a guide. Installed the camber lock pins. Then put a little wood glue on the end of the leg where I removed the finish. Put the legs on and locked them on with the camber lock. Then flipped it over and put the 2 drywall screws in. Then flipped it back over so any excess glue would not run down the legs. Then repeat for the other leg. I wanted to remove the finish so the wood glue would really bond the two parts together. The wood glue and extra screw isn't necessary but since I have a Plasma TV on top of a Polk CSI A4 it was just extra insurance for me.

It is a a pretty solid piece. The legs are kind of narrow so you cant have the TV sit clear back on the shelf. You want the weight centered over them.

Any way I would recommend it for some one who needs to put a center channel under a TV but doesn't have the shelf space to do it. The space under the TV is just a little to narrow to fit a CSI A6. The area is 23" wide and 7 1/2" tall. Other options for width are 19" and 21"

Here you can see where I put two black dry wall screws in each leg. They are already black but I sprayed a little flat black paint in to a paper cup. Then just used a q tip to dab a little on to cover up the shiny metal caused by the drill bit tip. It really isnt too noticable.

Very nice. Have you tried to separate the mains more? I think you would get better soundstage that way.
