Been doing it since I was a kid. Nothing better than hitting a hog in the head with an axe and slitting it's throat to bleed out. I've seen it all since growing up in good ole' Carolina. The worst was probably with chickens, and seeing how they wring a chicken's neck. I've love to watch this show, sounds entertaining Jstas.

Started fishing at 6, hunting at 15. I've always cleaned and usually cooked what I caught or shot. There is no comparison between fresh caught fish and the stuff they sell in the stores. Wild game is also much better if properly prepaired than comercially produced meat. It's much healthier too, less fat and no chemicals.

I agree Skip. Fish especially. I really don't like store bought Salmon, but my buddy always gets some every year and hooks me up with some nice pieces. Tastes great. Chicken is about the only thing that tastes near the same from a store. Of coarse wild or raised is much healthier than the store bought. Elk, rabbit, and even venison is top notch too.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks
    Ben

Absolutely! As long as my hands didn't get dirty or as long as I didn't have to look at blood, I'd be fine. Piece of cake.

Absolutely, we have a freezer full of halibut, salmon, and venison as we speak. It's been years since I got a deer, I'm not sure I remember how to field dress, and butcher anymore.

Yes I could, Yes I have, Haven't in a while, but could again.

My wife on the other hand would die of starvation or become a vegetarian real quick without me around.

    That should cover it.

I've been killin **** since I was a kid. I'm talkin 5-6 years old. My oldest brother is a master butcher and was an avid hunter, so the introduction was early. I have the necessary skill, and most of the needed tools.

AAMOF, I actually don't like killing unless it's for consumption. Never was a trophy hunter, I'd much rather let the big bucks go to strengthen the herd. I don't mind too much if it's going to feed someone, say a village or something.

It's something everyone should know, you never know when your going to need it...

I recommend taking a pilgrimage to Wyoming and living off the land. My father, my brother and I went to Wyoming for two months on horse back and lived completely off the land. It was awesome. We caught and prepared fish and other wildlife for the entire two months. A guide did live with us for a week to show us what plantlife we could eat and how to avoid certain indigenous dangers, but in the end we did it ourselves. We all learned a lot about each other and just how beautifully simple life can be when your goal each day is only to find your next meal.

Sure I could, you'd be surprised what your capable of when your own survival depends on it.
I don't see why some may be surprised at those who can't do it. When was the last time it was necessary to kill your dinner ?
Comes down really to survival skills. Maybe that should be taught in schools these days. You know, for when the day comes Micky D's closes down, then what will teenagers eat ?

Fish, yes. As a little boy, I've watched my aunts clean ducks. Other than that, there are no hunters in the family that I know of so I haven't gone bird or deer hunting. One day I will. Not sure how I'll react having to clean a deer but always easier with an experienced hunter at your side to teach and haze you. Beer will probably help. lol

It is a necessary part of eating meat that I would rather do myself than rely on the cleanliness and technique of someone else.

Well, I've dissected several things in my youth for school, the largest was a cat that turned out to be pregnate. I wasn't squeamish back then but a frozen cat is different from a warm deer. I'll keep the beer warning in mind.

My audience insults me on a daily basis here with no regard to my own feelings, position or situation as well as a complete lack of knowledge of those items regarding my concern. So no matter how pleasant and congenial I am, I still get zero respect from the majority of the people here. I've made the effort to consider fragile psyches such as yours and it has been fruitless. So why should I bother being concerned about feelings of anyone else if it changes nothing?

BTW, it seems that only the ones who are typically the offenders are the ones who are offended by my posts. They are also the ones who have to take cheap shots in public instead of bringing their issue with me to me in, say, a PM, where I can ignore you much more effectively.

Have done and could do (still have an old .308 Savage buried in storage somewhere). My cousin used to live in Alaska and close to half of the protein his family ate in a year was hunted or fished, but for most of us city dwellers it's not super practical. Not to mention, last time I went on a deer hunt (not in Alaska) I kept track of expenses just to see. After figuring in just gas and paying to have it butchered, some gamy venison cost us more than twice what the same amount of good steak would cost. I switched to backcountry backpacking as a hobby after that.

I'd much rather kill and eat something I hunted than some animal that grew up in a factory. Factory farming is disgusting. Get your food locally and from farm stands een if it's more expensive.

I'd like to do it because it would definitely change how I ate. How bad do I want chicken tonight. Do I want it bad enough to go kill a chicken? Or just bad enough to take chicken **** out of the fridge...Eating meat would be a luxury and special thing, as it was when people had to slaughter their own animals.

Yes. Fish, deer, wild hog, rabbit, duck and goose. Not so much squirrels anymore since, as a kid, I found out they are in the same family as a rat.

As for me...I have no idea how to clean fish or other animals. It's something I always wanted to learn but never really did. My parents have property on a river (its about 4 hours away now though :( ) and we'd go fishing all the time...for one reason or another, I never learned how. My dad's an expert at it. I hope to be someday as well. I could probably manage because I've seen it done a lot, I just personally never did it.

I've been deer hunting once. I'd like to go more, but its expensive for a deer lease. And again, my dad's an expert at it. In fact, when he was working for a contractor (for something completely unrelated), he was acting as a guide and taking people out on the weekends to the contractor's lease. He was cleaning probably a deer/weekend on average throughout deer season. He's not as good on hogs, but could do it. This is another thing I'd like to learn someday.

Without a doubt, put five deer in the freezer this past winter not counting all the squirrel and rabbit as well. Just yesterday put 12 freshly caught trout in the freezer. If the cross hairs are on it, it's either going in the freezer or on the table.
