Without bassist and vocalist Ben orr, this could be a major letdown, as he sang most of there best stuff, he passed away in 2000, from cancer.

I thought Ric Okasek was the lead singer for most of the run. Anyway, I don't anticipate much with this. Their "sound" was very 80's even though I really liked it and still do. We'll see.

I am curious if they will try to sound modern or 80s.

The cars hit the scene in the summer of 78, there debut, is considered a masterpiece by most critics, and fans alike,, there next album, 1979,s candy-o was almost as good,, some even like it more than there debut, it is these 2 albums, they are mainly known for,, cuts off these 2 albums are played in heavy rotation on classic rock radio constantly, by 1981, there music, had become more new wave, than rock, Ben orr, sang most of the hits,

I am very familiar with the Cars but thanks for the history lesson. I bought Candy-O on the day of release mainly because I had been listening to the debut for a year. Yes, they were originally a late 70's band but they were one of the first bands to have what would later be called the "80's sound". Techno meets punk meets disco meets pop. Commonly known as "new age".
As for Orr, to my knowledge these are the songs he sang lead on, Okasek sang all the others:

    The Cars
    Just What I Needed
    Bye, Bye Love
    Moving In Stereo
    All Mixed Up

    Candy-O
    Let's Go
    It's All I Can Do
    Candy-O
You Can't Hold On Too Long

    Panorama
    Don't Tell Me No
    Down Boys
    You Wear Those Eyes
    Running To You

    Shake It Up
    This Could Be Love
    Cruiser
    Think It Over

    Heartbeat City
    Drive
    Stranger Eyes
    It's Not The Night

    Door to Door
    Double Trouble
    Everything You Say
    Coming Up You
    Go Away

"New Wave", NOT "New Age". New Age is an offshoot of classical, much more mellow.

Candy-O was one of those rare instances where the sequel was as good as or better than the original. Few franchises music, movie, et al can make that claim.

After hearing 3 songs, on the new cd, ill have to pass, really sounded alot like Shake it up, period cars,,, Im more into the cars that rocked,, 1st 2 records, add to that, the fact without Ben Orr, Its more like a Ric Ocasek cd, Even whan ocasek sang the lead on there songs, you had orr doing backup vocals,, thats missing as well,,

Ben WAS the cars, without him they are just not near as good. O-car-sick, IMO, was nothing even close to being as good and was a let down for me.

Give it a listen, at least. You may be pleasantly surprised. Even without Ben, some of the elements are there and had me reminiscing the 80's. Here's a demo of what I think is the best track on the album.

You are right, they do retain some of those elements of the 80's which is very cool.

This is one of those rare CD's that I like less the more I listen to it. The first time I popped it in the player, I drifted back to 1980 and thought it was CD was great. While I still think it's okay since I'm a fan of The Cars, music has changed and well, it's not 1980 anymore.
