Help Me With Cables For The Amp I Finally Ordered

Ok I ordered a B&K Components Video 5 Sonata and now I'm on the war path to find the right cables.

Since it's five channel I thought I could get away with ordering one of these:
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?PartNumber=181-626

Edit- looks like I'm only going to need one of these since there are four connections:
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?PartNumber=181-654

Yes I know I should buy 3ft cable but regretfully I'm going to have to place the amp just a foot or so too far for that. I am a bit bit concerned about having one odd cable but I figure that could go to the center channel unless it's total no no

Oh is there anything else I'm going to need?

Thanks,
Jason

The short question is. Is what I've picked out so far going to work between my receivers preamp and the amp just fine or should I get something else?

More questions if you have time:
I'm pretty much a noob at purchasing cables for home audio amps and I'm not exactly sure what I need to purchase. Of the links I've posted are those acceptable to use from the preamp to the amp? Or am I buying the wrong type of cable?

Also I'm interested in some decent speaker wire and I'm a bit interested in this particular one http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=109-062. I think I'm going to stick with the 16 gauge to the rears but I want 12 gauge for the fronts and center.

If my post doesn't make sense I've got a great excuse. I've got a 2 year old and 5 month old and I'm running off of 4 hours of sleep

Since you are just getting started those cables are more than adequate. Just to give you an idea about this subject, there is a nearly inifinite number of possible cables that can be purchased in all price ranges. You can always upgrade later.

Just as an example I bought 2 1/2 pair (5 cables) of these for my HT, but they were also my 3rd upgrade. I will probably keep them until I go balanced, but that will first require a new pre/processor.

It should be fine. You can also look at bluejeans cables - good quality / price ratio.

Basically you just need 5 RCAs to connect from the preamp to the amp, and you're good to go.

Yeah, they will work, just get 5 of them and your good to go. Any rca cable will work, of coarse there are varying degrees of quality and sound too. There's so many flavors out there in the cable market, pick your poison.

    OOPS...sorry gents,too slow tonight.

    Jason,

From your AVR/pre-amp to your new amplifier you will need RCA analog cables.
The first link you have in this post, is a coax digital cable, it looks like the second link but they are not the same type of cable. I just though you should know this.

Thanks tha was something I had been thinking about. I was so tired last night I wasn't exactly asking what I wanted in this thread. I think in the review for that single cable someone says they use it from their avr to amp.

I figure someone just reviewed the wrong item. Here is what they said.
"I am using these cables for my connection between my AVR and amplifiers. They are very heavy and sturdy, and transfer audio very well. I am ordering more once I purchase my third amplifier next month."

Don't I only need 3 sets of RCA cables and I'll have one extra that can't be connected. Right?

It was pointed out to me that one of those cables was a Coax so I can't use it for the preamp/amp connection so I have to have 3 of the RCA.

That's how I feel for the most part minus factors like matching the right gauge for the right distance and power, good shielding to keep out noise, and that it's got the right metal for proper conductivity. Past those things I'll buy the cheapest

If you see an orage band around the tip of the connector that indicates it is a digital cable not an analog cable.

Usually when you buy these type of cables that they come joint together, as you move to more expensive cables the cables comes in pares but they are single cables not joint.

If possible disjoint the pair that ends up in one using one of the cables, I don't know that I would keep the extra cable around if not fully conneted to the avr and amp.

Also very important, never connect/disconnect the cables while your systsem is ON. Turn OFF everything even If you have to unplug it from your power supply then make all the connections.

You can use a digital RCA coax for analog, but it is not recommended to use the analog RCA coax for digital.

I am currently using these from Monoprice (only mine are 6 footers) and they work quite well.

They also have some cheaper ones here

I do plan on replacing them with better cables shortly but they work great for what I needed at the time.

Regarding the SignalCables Frank also has home theater interconnect sets for folks like you using a 5 channel amp.

They, a set of 6 Analog 2's 3 footers, are what I am going to step up to myself:

Is there an advantage to using digital RCA coax over analog in my case?
