Got the house to myself this morning, so I put on the SACD version, turned the volume knob to about 10 c'lock (plenty loud), close my eyes...

I can smell my old apartment, my old B&W DM110 with Proton Integrated, college single life, old room-mate, laughter of the old gangs, Statics 101 mid-term exam group study...

damned memories. what a life was.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

I had not heard this album before I bought it on SACD. It was better than I thought it was going to be. Quite enjoyable.

Very nice SACD, the music seems to "fit" the multi-channel format very well!

I really do like Brothers in Arms but (even in the analog domain) it has a kind of dry, shimmery "digital" overall sound that isn't altogether to my liking.

Just thought I'd share that, appropos of nothing.

The multi-channel surround version of "Brothers in Arms" won the Grammy for "Best Surround Sound Album" when it was released on DualDisc/DVD-Audio back in 2005. Note that the SACD version was never released in the US, therefore no Grammy was credited to the SACD version. Dire Straits (and Mark Knopfler, for that matter) is signed to Warner Music affiliated labels in the US, and since Warner Music supports DVD-Audio....
