It wouldn't have anything to do with the fact the guy can't write anything the least bit relivant in 2011?

I enjoyed the majority of his music, and will continue to do so. I like his voice, very easy listening.If...

I am still trying to figure out why he seeks to appologize for his success... or did I misunderstand what he was saying there. The Gear... Phil is a great talent IMO. I enjoy his music very much. I liked Genesis with Peter Gabriel. I liked Genesis with Phil Collins. They were different but very good, each in their own way.
I'm glad he can leave the business on his own terms. I hope he enjoys his retirement. Hard to beat rural Switzerland as a place to retire. I wish him well."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

He used to be an outstanding drummer, up until he started singing full time. Listen to his stuff on "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" for example. Great drummer, ok singer.

Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion."
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

Didn't he announce this, like 2 years ago? I remember someone posted about him retiring?I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

...he did to Genesis, what Michael McDonald did to the Doobies
Well, not quite, I'd say. Collins dates back to Genesis' early days (though not an original member) and certainly was included in its halcyon days (i.e., The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway). McDonald, whose voice always made me think of the tones of a man singing with his private parts caught in a pair of ViceGrips, came at the end of (what I would consider, at any rate) the Doobies' halcyon days.

And now, a message from the man himself, Phil Collins....Greetings to all, I've decided to write this in response to the articles that surfaced last weekend regarding my retirement. Why they were printed at all is a mystery, as I haven't spoken to anybody in the press for a few months.
However, many of the articles printed over the last few months have ended up painting a picture of me that is more than a little distorted. Therefore, I would like to add my comments and try to explain again my reasons for calling it a day.
1/ I'm not stopping because of dodgy reviews or bad treatment in the press.
2/ I'm not stopping because I don't feel loved, I know I still have a very large fanbase that loves what I do. Thank you.
3/ I'm not stopping because I don't fit in, this was proved with "Going Back" reaching No 1 in the UK, and doing incredibly well worldwide.
4/ I'm not stopping so I can dive full time into my interest for the Alamo.
I am stopping so I can be a full time father to my two young sons on a daily basis.
Some of the things mentioned above have been said by me in various interviews, but said as asides with a smile on my face and in passing. They were not meant to be "headlines", they were small parts of a conversation. This clearly doesn't come over in print and I should know better.
However, the result is that I have ended up sounding like a tormented weirdo who thinks he was at the Alamo in another life, who feels very sorry for himself, and is retiring hurt because of the bad press over the years.
None of this is true.
Thanks for all your messages on the Forum regarding this stuff, it means a lot that you care.
But there's no need for the straitjacket !

That's correct. The reason given at that time was his back was shot and he was no longer able to play the drums.Political Correctness'.........defined

Gave them both more money and top 40 hits with great success, then yes I guess he did do the same thing that McDonald did for the Doobies.Klipsch The Nines, Audioquest Thunderbird Interconnect, Innuos Zen MK3 W4S recovery, Revolution Audio Labs USB & Ethernet, Border Patrol SE-I, Audioquest Niagara 5000 & Thunder, Cullen Crossover II PC's. -
F1's got it right.
His back is messed up and by all accounts can't hold a set of drumsticks in his hands due to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
In fact, he is not capable of even performing certain basic functions without assistance.
Shame; enjoyed his music, seemed to be a pretty decent person.Sal Palooza
