Trouble ripping a cd to my computer...

I've ripped hundreds of cds to my computer over the last year. I tried to rip one (excuse me:redface:) today and it is not showing up in windows explorer or windows media player.
It says there is no disc. The disc plays fine in my cd player, but my computer running Window 7 does not see it at all.
The disc in question is Station to Station by David Bowie, digitally remastered at Abbey Road Studios on the EMI label.
Is there copy protection on this disc? Help!

Copy protection on CDs should all be the same - I wouldn't think that is it. Even so, Windows 7 would play it. The disc itself is fine right? No scratches? Different drives have different tolerances for smudges / scratches. And it's not an SACD or something right?
This is kind of a head scratcher. I'd try it on someone else's computer just to see. If it plays on another computer, it could just be your drive.ALL BOXED UP for a while until I save up for a new place

Thanks for the reply. Its a new disc, clean as a whistle. I'll try another machine to rule that out. It is NOT SACD."The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it." Neil deGrasse Tyson. -
OK. I loaded the disc into a spare laptop running UBUNTU and it loaded right up! So I ripped it there and moved it to the main system, sounds great.
I still don't know why Windows 7 on my laptop will not read this disc."The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it." Neil deGrasse Tyson. -

Some years back (2002??), I recall reading about a new music cd protection scheme that would prevent playback on a computer based CD-ROM. There was a huge backlash because it turned out a lot of the CD players (e.g. stand alones, portable, car) used a computer based CD player and I think the major label had to recall the CD or they were thinking about it.
Try it on another Windows machine. If it still won't read the disc, you know the copy protection is looking for Windows base machines. To be really accurate, try it on another Linux distro because I could be talking out of my arse.
Glad you got it worked out. -
^ That was sony that try other way of installing a hidden software to apply there way of DRM and they were obligated by court to remove that software .
To the OP you might check what software as the control of your media , Itunes , WMP etc and uninstall it and install it again . -
I've had this happen to me several times before on my Macbook Pro. I never figured it out.
