:redface:No more than an hour and a half after posting this stupid little comment in the current "Computer Hackers" thread...
Keep in mind that most infections are user-enabled. Apple products are not impervious. Jailbroken or rooted smartphones are more vulnerable and are a huge concern.
I get this in my email:
Dear Comcast Customer,

Your immediate attention is required. Constant Guard? identified that one or more of your computers may be infected with a "Bot".

We strongly recommend that you visit the Comcast Constant Guard Center at https://constantguard.comcast.net for important information on how to remove malicious software from your computer(s).

A "Bot" is malicious software or malware that is used to gain control of your computer, typically without your knowledge. Online criminals can use Bots to collect your personal and private data, such as Social Security numbers, bank account information, and credit card numbers by monitoring your keystrokes. This can lead to identity theft and fraud.

We appreciate your prompt attention to this important online security notice.

Sincerely,

Comcast Customer Security Assurance

So I've scanned 4 of the 5 computers in the house and found virtually nothing suspicious so far... The fifth computer is rarely used, so I doubt that's the problem. While going through the process, I also learned (much to my surprise) that Windows 7 Service Pack 1 was released on February 22, yet for some reason, was not automatically installed on any of my computers. It is now.

I've scanned the computers with Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool, and Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware.

The funny thing was that MSE did turn up some "malicious" software on one of my computers... turns out it was a Linux exploit, and I had downloaded it deliberately a few days ago - the software I installed to root my Android phone! (Of course that's what I had intended it to do.)

    WTH is "constant guard"?

edit; just looked. It seems that comcast will now inform you if they think your computer is being used as a spam bot or similar.

I bet tons of false warnings are going to be sent out. You may fall under that category.

It could be false, but I also have two more laptops to check out, including my stepdaughter's. She's a college student, and who knows what kind of stuff kids pick up at college these days.
