What a tragic way to end the perfect season...

I shed a tear for this earlier today... what a tragedy. What was one of the best moments in this boy's life proves to be his last. So sad. God bless his family, friends, and his community as they try and come to grips with this. :frown::frown::frown:
Fennville, Mich. -- On Thursday night in this small town not far from the coast of Lake Michigan, a tiny high school gym was packed with basketball fans that got to witness perfection.

In the blink of an eye, however, it was replaced with shock, despair and sadness.

Junior Wes Leonard had just led his team, the Fennville Blackhawks, to a perfect 20-0 season. His layup in the final minute of the game provided the winning margin.

Only seconds later, the 16-year-old collapsed to the floor and was pronounced dead less than an hour later at Holland Hospital.

"There are no words," football coach Tim Schipper said of the loss of Leonard, who was also the school's quarterback. "I've said this 100 times. I just can't grasp the significance of this. It's just unbelievable. If I had some words, they'd be out by now. I just don't have any."

As a parent I can't even imagine how hard this would be to deal with.

For me, it is beyond a tragedy when a young healthy person is gone for any reason. My heart goes out to his parents, relatives, and friends. I am a firm believer in science, and I hope that soon we can stop these premature deaths.

That is a very sad story. A coworker of mine went to that same school. He was pretty much shook up all of yesterday.

I can't even imagine... This was on my mind as I watched my son's game last night. Another reminder to make the best of every moment we get. Make sure the ones we love always remain aware of that love.
