Hey just a fast post before bed, I purchased Lotr EE tonight, finally tried the ring drop on the sub, But what's the deal.. only 107-108db max with the volume loud!! Now the blast after the ring drop hit 110 on the money at about 9-10 foot.. Just reffering back to the pwc thread lol.. I thought with a small room like mine and the SVS surely i woulda hit 110 db.. Now im not unhappy with the SVS for this :D just curious with all the claims to 110db with various subs and larger rooms.. do i need extremly high volume, the sub amp cranked for the test... really i don't care its all in fun, im just wondering. Ok well i tried and failed.. close though. any better scenes to try on this dvd??

Are you talking about the fight at the beginning of the movie where the guy chops off his finger/hand and there is the major explosion?

If that is the scene you are refering to I do not think I have heard and bass deeper than that.

yes where he gets his finger cut off, then after that thier is an explosion, which is really hard hitting.. I was reffereing to why my sub couldn't hit 110db on the ring drop? Dr.spec started a thread for fun to see how many peoples subs could do it, my didn't tonight.. so i was wondering.

Any chance your Peak base is set to low (via your Receiver/preamp)?

    Faster,

What Frank is referring to is something called Dynamic Range setting. Make sure that it is on max on both your DVD player and Receiver/ prepro (if they have this setting).

I'm sure Doc will get you on Specification with a good prescription there bud!

    Faster,
Take a look a pg 33 of your manual. There you will find the instructions for adjusting the Peak Bass Limiter on your receiver. The way it works is that the receiver will actually look at the audio signal before it is sent to the sub and limit the volume that the sub will reproduce in order to prevent damage to the sub.

So the bass limiter is indeed something different than the dynamic range feature? Hmmm...that's one feature that none of my receivers ever had (which receiver is it??).

    P.

Faster's sig lists an Integra DTR 7.1

The Bass Peak function can be found on just about all THX certified gear, although it is not exclusive to THX receivers/preamps.

    Faster,
If you didn't already know, there are also some DTS LFE output options on your receiver that you should look at as well.

I agree, once broken in the sub should go where you want it...I would suggest some good cables as well which will help you acheive the bass drop you want. Bettercables are an excellent bargain and deliver the goods without spending $$$.
