Hi All,

My first post, but I've been absorbing some great info here the past week. Anyway, I just received the following speakers. TSi 400's front L-R, CS10 center, TSi 100's rear surrounds, & a BIC F12 sub. I have an Onkyo receiver & was wondering if the Tsi 400 tower speakers should be set as small or large speakers?

The receiver has a mic that suposedly allows the system to adjust levels automatically, but I was unsure if the 400's should be set to small. I'll be diving into this project tonight.

Thanks,
Hamchunk

I would set to small in such a setup, and in fact I do set to small with a similar pair of front speakers (monitor 70s). I also have an Onkyo with the mic but chose my own settings instead - fronts set to small with the crossover taking effect at 80hz.

    Two Channel Setup:

    Speakers: Wharfedale Opus 2-3
    Integrated Amp: Krell S-300i
    DAC: Arcam irDac
    Source: iMac
    Remote Control: iPad Mini

    3.2 Home Theater Setup:

    Fronts: Klipsch RP-160M
    Center: Klipsch RP-160M
    Subwoofer: SVS PB12NSD (X 2)
    AVR: Yamaha Aventage RX-A2030
    Blu Ray: Sony BDP-S790
    TV Source: DirecTV Genie

I have a Bic F12 sub also, as well as an Onkyo receiver (TX-SR505 7.1, 75W/channel).

I'm using R50s for fronts, CS20 for center, and R150s for surrounds. All set to "small", with 80hz crossover. Sounds very good for both movies and music.

Set your Bic F12 to the "digital 5.1" switch setting, which will bypass the sub's internal crossover, and use your receiver's crossover.

Thanks for the quick responses! I will try the small setting with 80Hz crossover. This is the first subwoofer I've seen that has a digital 5.1, 7.1 / Prologic switch on the back. Brings back memories of the pre-digital times & VHS tape :)

    Thx,

There are many opinions out there about the small/large, most compelling I've read for small, and for good reason. Can't remember who made the large post I once read about it, but it was a good read. If anyone knows what I'm referring to and has that thread saved please post it!

All that being said, I feel my TSI500s (which are pretty much M70s from what I understand) sound sooo much better on 'Large.'

I've played with both settings and OI just feel it is more rounded. Especially when I listen to music with a lot of natural bass- like bass guitar, double bass or cello- on large it just seems to give you more warmth.

Movies I don't notice as much of a different.

Point is certainly try them both out!

I have the tsi 100s as my front left and right with the cs10 center. In my setup the large setting works much better because I can then use the double bass option which puts more bass in the speaker and less on the sub. This evens the sound in my setup. I am using an Onkyo R667 receiver.
