Got a new pre amp in da house! I found a used Audio Research LS3 pre amp on audiogon. The guy lived near me so I jumped on it. The only thing that sucks is I don't have an amp to hook it to at the moment so it just has to sit in the box until I can get an amp...
In any case getting new gear is ALWAYS good!
The pre is in GREAT shape!

I'll hold on to it for you while you get an amp, I'll make sure it works and all that.

As good as that thing looks I bet you could play a boom box while looking at it and be completly happy.

Yeah, that beast does look pretty cool. Maybe its just cause I was reading the Star Wars thread, but that thing looks like something that would be found on the Death Star.

How much did you give for it ? Im going to be looking for one soon.

Thanks guys! She's a beauty! I sat there and looked at her for the longest time yesterday when I got her home. I can't wait to get her hooked up!Originally posted by TroyD

Nah, think I'll hold onto this baby, but I'm sure you've got an extra amp laying around the house that you could send on up to me!Originally posted by scottdawg

It's a solid state AR pre and I got it for $500. In it's day it retailed for $1700. I've seen them go from $500 to around $700. It's about 8 years old or so. about 4 or 5 years ago it was sent back to Audio Research for a tune up. The guy had it rated as a 6 on audiogon, could easily go for 9 for the shape it's in, or an 8 with the exception for age... We'll have to see how long I can live without a remote, a used one with a remote will cost you quite a bit more... They also make a balanced version the LS3B.
Now I have to find an amp that will mate well with the AR pre and my Dynaudio's. Any suggestions?Sony KDL-40V2500 HDTV, Rotel RSX-1067 Receiver, Sony BDP-S550 Blu-ray, Slim Devices Squeezebox, Polk RTi6, CSi3 & R15, DIY sub with Atlas 15 -
I dont have enough expierience to know what will mate good with the AR. Im sure you couldnt go wrong with Ampzilla or Rogue audio. I heard a Rogue yesterday through a audio refinement cd and bel canto DAC into a set of Von Schweikert V4 series III speakers, speaker cables were acoustic zen, not sure what interconnects were used. I was nearly in tears, not only due to the awesome sound but also because I cant have it.

I'm thinking I'm going to try the McCormack DNA 0.5 amp (or the DNA 1 if I can swing the extra cash). The guy I bought my pre from had the AR matched with it, and the guy I bought my speakers from had them matched with the newer McCormack DNA 125 amp, both sellers said it was a fantastic match. I've heard the McCormack on some Theil gear and was impressed. Also, Steve McCormack offers upgrades to the amps. I believe the newer McCormack DNA 125 is just the DNA 0.5 with the "revision B" from www.smcaudio.com
I've also been looking at the Audio Research D130 but can't seem to find them on audiogon lately.Sony KDL-40V2500 HDTV, Rotel RSX-1067 Receiver, Sony BDP-S550 Blu-ray, Slim Devices Squeezebox, Polk RTi6, CSi3 & R15, DIY sub with Atlas 15
