Political Correctness'.........defined

"A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a t-u-r-d by the clean end."

Kudos to the old man. He's right when he says more people should help out in circumstances like that.

Walmart's policies are idiotic...sure, the "idea" behind the policy is to keep their employees safe, but they need to stop with the "no tolerance" way of looking at policies like this. Both examples are instances where people did the right thing.

Stuck in a small, closed room with a guy wielding a gun? Take him down.
Guy pulls a knife on you, then runs into the parking lot where there are people and children? Take him down.

    Grow up Walmart.

Once inside the office, the man, Trent Lofton, removed the laptop from his jacket, along with a handgun and rushed Gabe Stewart, one of the security officers.

Oh oh ..... sounds like Gabe Stewart may be in for some serious trouble !

"A week later, all four workers were in fact fired because they disarmed and detained the suspect."

Yep, he's in serious trouble !!

I'm sure that Walmart has these policies in place to avoid lawsuits.
    HOWEVER ....

I'm not one for litigating everything under the sun in court, but this one .... well ..... welcome to Hell, Wallyworld.

"..along with a handgun" .... sheesh.

You run into a lot of store security guards on 1911 forum/ar15.com and they always mention stuff like this. Nearly every store/agency has a policy like this. Yes, it is to avoid lawsuits.

It makes sense though, if you don't allow your security guards to carry arms, why would you want them attacking an armed man? Sure, most petty criminals are not prepared to shoot, but still... why take the chance? moreover, why take the chance for the 15-20 you're getting paid?

Yes, it would have to suck to be fired for doing your job, but this guy broke the rules of employment, thereby not doing his job... his job, in this case, was to let the guy go. I mean, really, how much is that laptop worth to walmart versus the life of one of their employees? It might seem like the brave thing to do, but it is actually just stupid.

edit: it says he pulled the gun out of the guys hand... a struggle for a gun with 4 people in a small room? It turned out good for him this time, but I can see how that could have totally went wrong.

maybe you read a different story than i did, but they took him to a back room, THEN he pulled out a gun. I'm sure the thought of "Wal-Mart is paying me big bucks to stop this guy" never went through his mind. I assure you my only thought would have been "how can I get this gun away from this guy so I get out alive and go home and see my family"

This wasn't a case of some guy coming into a store and waving his gun around, telling people to give him money or get on the ground. This was a close-quarters situation, with a guy pulling out a gun in a panic. Instinct takes over in situations like that, and people shouldn't be punished for it.

Instinct is, by it's nature, not something that can be easily controlled.

Now, the employee who chased after the guy with the knife should definitely have let him go...but I understand why he didn't.
