Well if you go with the DSW MicroPRO 4000, remember that the cheapest you can usually find those is around $850 shipped for each one, if you can find them when Polk has refurbs available. I can say that if you get those, you will be more than satisfied with them. I have one that I've been running, just got another, and I'm trying to figure out how to safely run and set both up. But I highly recommend the MP4K because of how capable that sub is of handling whatever you can throw at it.

Dude there's a 15" Dayton Titanic on Austin craigslist for $375 right now! If you don't buy it I might have to. I just got my SVS last week otherwise I would have snagged it.

I'd personally get the Dayton even though it's 5, but it's your money and you have to live with what you buy. Lot of sub for the money and you'd still have cash left over.

My recommendation would be to go with a SVS or a HSU for that kind of money.
    Front - RTiA5's
    Rear - RTiA3's
    Center - CSiA4
    Sub - PSW110

oh yeah and the ed A5 - 350 seems like a better deal than the HSU

I'm a Hsu fan...a buddy of mine at the office is a big ED fan. We've both had a chance to listen to each others systems.

Both companies make great subs. HSU is my preference, as their subs send to sound much cleaner. They're definitely more sound quality/musicality oriented subwoofers....but that by no means doesn't mean they don't have the impact to work well for HT. I've never heard the VTF-15, but I am very impressed with my VTF-3's output, and can only imagine how much harder the VTF-15 hits.

My co-worker actually has an ED A7, and that thing hits HARD. In terms for raw power, the ED gets a nod (though its not really an apples to oranges comparison to my VTF-3). His sub isn't as clean as the HSU, however, and when it comes to music and even a little bit with HT, the ED does sound comparably 'boomy'.

Dual Polk subs isn't something you should discount right off the bat though. Setting up dual subs is very challenging, but offers distinct advantages over a single beastly sub....particularly in terms of flattening the frequency response across the room. If you have a lot of seating positions or have a very awkward shaped/open listening space, dual subs can go a long way. My VTF-3 is sitting nearfield, and I have to admit that in the seats closer to the sub, its actually kind of overwhelming and drowns the main audio track out.

Wattage isn't everything when it comes to subwoofers...or audio in general. The efficiency of the driver, cabinet design, bracing, tuning, etc are at least as important....most of these factors are actually more important. When it comes to ported subs, having enough volume in the cabinet and ports plays a very big role in the amount of air that can be moved without chuffing/distortion. The Hsu weighs twice as much as the PSW505, and is quite a big larger, which says a lot about the cabinet design.

The Hsu also has useable output down to 18hz in max extension mode, vs 23hz in the PSW505, which not only allows it to play lower, but gives it more headroom in the subsonic frequencies.

The efficiency of the driver isn't usually something that's advertised for full assembled subwoofers....it is something you consider, however, if you're building a DIY HT or Car Audio Sub.

I haven't heard the VTF-15, but my gut tells me that two VTF-3's would have more output across the board than a single VTF-15, plus you have all the advantages of running multiple subs (ie, flatter frequency response around the room). As a warning though, setting up multiple subs can be VERY tricky, as you have to deal with timing, cancellation, and all sorts of other issues. It'll take quite a bit more effort than simply running audyssey and walking away.

If you're serious about the Hsu, it'd probably be a good idea to contact Pete either on their forum or by phone. It wouldn't hurt to reach out to eD and SVS while you're at it. These internet direct companies are very hands on with their customer service/sales. I've had good experiences with both the folks at Hsu and SVS.

The VTF-15 has about double the output of 1 VTF3Mk3, but of course you don't get the advantages of having dual subs. It's been said it's a little week around 20hz as well, even plugged.

Do some research on the AVS forum, it has a lot more information and it's where Pete Hsu posts.

Those response curves are pretty useless. Your room is the biggest factor in determining how the sub will respond and sound. All you need to know is the Hsu and the SVS will dig deep or dig to a certain frequency and can be modified to go a little deeper.

yes correct me if im wrong but they have both been mesured! the pb13 ultra has been proved to be better on all frequency response's ranging from 80-18hz all by at least 3db+ and when it came to lower freq. they came to atleast 1db close! but how much is 3db?! is it really 800$ better?!
