Power cable connectors..

Whatcha using?
I had an OCC (3/4" thick 12ga.) cable sitting in a drawer for about 2 years.
Today I took it out and put a Wattgate 350i on it with the matching 330i male.
I gotta say (I am a Furutech man, and own over 20 of the better ones) it is AMAZING!
Anyone try these Wattgate gold connectors?
Very, very detailed, organic, and FAST.
Pretty much 3D/makes your system disappear.
Very impressed!
I offered this cable to Nap, but I think I will keep it now.
This is a jaw dropper!
It was nice talking to you folks, as I am probably banned now!
I don't know who makes this cable (cheap I'm sure), but this damn thing is incredible with the Wattgate golds.
Been in this game for 20 yrs.
Read alot about them on AA (the connectors), but never tried one, I'm hooked!

I need to do my amps. I think I will hard wire them instead of an IEC. Less connections and it would improve the wiring inside. Do you know the best place to source that wire?
I have been thinking about this stuff for a while.

I have not tried that Belden.
From what I have read it is very good sounding cable, but a PITA to work with (its tinned).
The Carol 12 AWG 3C SJOOW Power Cable is very good sounding power cable.
You don't think it is a very good performer at first, but it comes around nicely with time, and really makes a great cable.
Really a sleeper for the money.
    Very easy to work with.

I am wanting to skip the IEC on a little Rotel I have also (solder it directly to the board).
I am thinking about trying some Neotech Teflon solid core (14 awg) with some kind of stain relief.
    It has stranded 18/2 now.

Think that solid core would be too hard to solder Ben?

Pepster, I use exclusively Carol and DH Labs. I like DH Labs better and the build quality is excellent for not much more than Carol. Have you tried DH?
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

    Yes I have tried it.
I made several cables out of it.
The price went up on the DH stuff.
    Great cable for the money.

    Ben,
    Revolution power has the Belden

I have read nothing but great things about that Cryoparts cable and I think I will give it a try very soon.

If you have a hot enough iron it won't be too bad. I like solid conductors for IC's and speaker cables, but for power cables I think the extra capacitance of the heavy gage multi strand is probably better. This is just an opinion, and would require further testing.

That sounds good. I would like to give it a try. I have the Pangea 14ga wires in my system for the pre, source, and XO. A little shootout might be in order. What do you think about a few of us doing a little power cable pool and see what we come up with for opinions? We could get together a care package for little get togethers to also try a shoot out. It would be nice to have a form to fill out and share opinions at the end so nobody is biased like some people think we might be do to others opinions. Results should be posted at the end of the shootout.
    LMK what you think.

I think it would come down to connectors.
IMHO at least, they are as important as the wire is.
    50/50 crapshoot.
You can make a cheap cable sound good with good connectors (Oyaide 004's), or you can have great cable with cheaper connectors that sounds good (ie Audience "e" version).

I think unless you are using some high end exotic cable, it would probably come down to the connectors as to which offers the better sounding performance.

Just my opinion which has never really been worth much to start with.

What I could do is make a 4 foot cable with the DH wire that FBM has graciously offered, and another with some Carol 12/3 cable. This would even the playing field. The Pangea's have molded connectors...

The furutech FI-11 cu are the best bang for the buck connectors in my opinion. And even better when sonic craft has thier 20% off sales.
I, of course prefer the FI-11ag IECs.
    And a shootout sounds great.
Pangea vs DH Labs vs cryomaxIII vs VH Audio DIY recipie vs Beldin might be a good start.
Waiting for sonic to have another sale to get me some neotech NEP-3003,hook up wire and some connectors.

Are you looking for the difference on your amp?
Or a general comparison as far as which cable sounds best with the widest range of systems?

The DH and Carol would be a great cable for the latter.

That sounds like a good exercise Ben. I'll be interested to read your thoughts on Carol vs. DH Labs. I did a shootout back in 2004/5 and thoughts DH sounds better to my taste. But, since I have Carol in several hard to reach places, I never bothered to replace them.

My amps are not setup for IEC, and yes I think the DH CArol would be a good shootout. I would like to see if the very inexpensive Carol stacks up well to the DH. Of coarse synergy may come into play.

Synergy always pops up as I found out with my Dragon pro2 that doesnt like the DH labs or the furutech FP-314ag.

    Ben,
I can't seem to find your address, but if you pm it to me, I will kick in a 4 ft pc of the Carol to compare to the DH.
    I'll pay the shipping.

Are you going to use the same connectors on ea. for equal comparison?
