So is anyone going to the midnight showing for this tonight? Some reviews have slammed it for being a cookie cutter of the 1st, and others have sung it's praises for the same....

I think I'll go into it with low expectations and probably end up laughing my arse off.

I got smashed last night, and have Muay Thai tonight, so I'm struggling with the midnight showing idea though....

Saw the first, a couple minor laughs was all. A rental at best for this one.

I was listening to a review by Rob, Arnie, and Dawn (A local radio show in Sacramento area, syndicated in Reno and Anchorage) and it sounds like there will be some funny moments but for the most part it will be the same movie but different locations.
Heres a link to the review by a funny fat guy

Well, like I've always said, never base your opinion on a film off someone's else's comments no matter who they are. After all, Ebert is the biggest hack out there and his reviews are useless, and pointless, a waste of time to read...as is every other published (so called) film critic.

That's a bit strong, don't you think? I'd hardly call the man a "hack". You may disagree with him, but the man has spent his life watching and analyzing movies from a VERY informed perspective.

Just because he believes in a medium that can sometimes transcend an endless series of explosions and piss-poor dialogue and (gasp!) sometimes produce actual works of art, hardly makes him a "hack".

We get it Ron. You like to shut off your brain and shove popcorn into your mouth when you're watching movies. Please don't deride others for sometimes wanting a little more out of the experience.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Watching a movie and expecting it to be something that it isn't will always let you down...such as the recent Pirates movie, if you go there thinking it will be something other than mindless entertainment you'll regret spending $$ to see it and may not enjoy it at all...I'm sure same hold true for Hangover movies...but with that said, it is not well rated on Rotten Tomatos so dvd only for me.
Yep, my name really is Bob.

Not strong at all, he is not a fair film critic. A fair critic would give both the pro's and the cons of a film, Ebert does not. Every film has pros and cons. If he decides he does not like a film, then there is nothing positive to report about it, at all. He reviewed "On Stranger Tides", yet he walked out of the film. Really? How can a critic give an honest opinion without watching the entire film?

Walking into a film like Pirates you know what your going to get and there a plenty of pros to it, just like the hundreds of films like it. Maybe it's strong points aren't story, or acting...or whatever, but it does have some. Not according to Ebert, and he is like this with pretty much every Sci-fi, fantasty, action film out there.

Sorry to derail this thread. I won't comment further on this topic.

    From Wikipedia:
"Ebert has described his critical approach to films as "relative, not absolute"; he reviews a film for what he feels will be its prospective audience, yet always with at least some consideration as to its value as a whole."

That being said... I know he has always been partial to Sci-Fi and Fantasy movies.

Saw the 2nd one with my wife this weekend, thought it was ok. We ended up watching the first one (AFTER the second) and couldn't believe how identical the script was. If you have seen the first, you've already seen the second. Unless you want to watch a monkey doing really, really wrong things.
