- Best Bang for the $ components for the novice!

...thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for the next generation breaking away from their
iPods and headphones.Recomend components that you think can be found for under $150.00. Idea would be
to put together an "AWESOME" system for under $400.00
Way I see it:
1 - Amp , Preamp' Integraded amp. or receiver. $150/$200.00
2 - Speakers - $150.00
3 - Turntable - $50.00/$100.00
- iPod - they already own
- DVD/CD player or PC - they already own
1 - Preamps/amps/receivers:
- Adcom 535 amp - $100.00
- Nad 30XX - 71xx receivers - up to $175.00
- Nad 1155 preamp - $100.00
- Nad preamp - any - $100.00
- Kenwood Basic 2 preamp - $100.00
- Proton - D540 receiver - has problems with preamp stage - can use 40w/per amp separate $50.00
- Kenwood Basic amps - $100.00
- Pioneer Classic silver faced integrated's - $100.00
- Pioneer SX-6 receiver $50.00
2 - SPEAKERS
- Polk Monitor series - $40-$150.00
- PSB Alpha series - $120.00
- Paradign Titans or Atoms - $60-$100.00

- Elac or Dual capstan drives - $75.00
- Technics Sl 23 - $50.00
- Pioneer PL 7 or 9 - $65.00

Your NAD suggestions are good.
Throw in some B&K preamps and amps
Some vintage Marantz will fall into this price range
Speakers
Polk monitors
Polk LS-50s in that price range
Many ADS bookshelfs will fall in that price range if your lucky
Turntables
Your suggestions are good -
- My favorite preamp ? Best Bang for the $ is the B&K pro10mc but it usually goes for $250.00
- Also the B&K ST-140 amp , but again around $200.00
....Total system should be around $400.00 - I figure that's about a month of drinking out with friends nowdays.
- have 2 Godchildren that fit this category. Ipods 80% of the time
- Also the Yamaha CR - receivers - $40/$150.00
- of course the Carver C-1 preamp for under $100.00
