powering rti70

I'm going from a 5.1 setup to a 2.1 because of moving into a smaller place. Right now the 2.1 setup would be marantz sr6001, rti70 and a custom built sub. I was thinking about possibly giving the rti70's some more power by going with a crown xls1000 amp and just using my sr6001 as my pre. do you guys think I will notice much of a difference this way? My other thought was to sell my rti70's and trying to pick up some lsi7 or9's for replacement, and have the same idea with the marantz/crown setup. thanks for any input.

Isn't that a pro amp? I guess I could hook up my Crown XTi 1000 and see what improvement there might be... It's a lot of power, but I don't think Crown amps are as refined as a good hi-fi amp.

yes it is a pro amp, on other forums members speek highly of crown amps. if you could try yours out and let me know how it sounds that would be great.

They're great pro amps...but for the hifi sector they're a bit unrefined. I like mine for power if I want to jam out, but I've hooked mine to a set of B&Ws and wasn't terribly impressed.

I got a Crown amp yesterday for my passive SVS, it definitely puts out some power, but probably isn't too high end in sound quality.

looks like I will not go down that road then. I guess then would I see a difference between using my marantz and going with like the emotiva upa2?

now that i'm looking at it i think i'm going to sell my equipment and start over.

Eh not a bad idea. I've thought of selling my RTi70s and going with something different. I'll always have my RT55s...

so I decided to put up my receiver for $350 and rti70's for $325 on craigslist, do you guys think those are pretty fair prices?

Thats on the high side. I could get a marantz 5004 for 350 and the RTi's I have only cost 150, and thats with a sub and center.

so I sold the speakers in my 5.1 system and picked up a set of Focal 806v bookshelf speakers
