I asked this before but in general . Here is more detail.
I was wondering if anyone knows a good way to add alittle more bass weight to the RTA 12B They go very very deep and are a very accuarate speaker but I would like a little more weight. Just alittle I know the head of customer service indicated he had 12s and loved them but he did play around with isulation alot.
Move closer to the wall.? Not the best choice in this room.
Put more insulation in the cabinet?? Downside??
I have put a very very thin layer on the uncovered parts of the cabinet but it is very thin.
Put the big bolt on the back of the passive as weight like the later SW 120s in the Cs?? This would slow the passive down. Not sure we want to do that??

Bass control? The 12's have real bass, not exaggerated in any manner. Play some organ music, you will realize it is all there and real.

Buy and install a set of Larry's rings.I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D

I have had Polks for 30 years and am aware the RTA 12s are accurate but so are Spendors and they have little bass weight. I am not the only one that has noticed this. How about a review of the RTA 12Bs from High Fidelity Mag in 1981
"Listening test bear ou the measurements. Set up well away from the walls of our listening room the RTA-12Bs sount unusually open and spacious with precise stereo imaging and an excellent sense of depth. Coloration is very low, most notably so on vocals and percussion instruments which emerge with utter clarity. There is some tendency to brightness however, and a noticeable lack of weight in the low end. Moving the speaker back against the rear wall largely eliminates these slight deficiencies, especially in the bass although at some expense to the speaker's still very fine imaging performance."
I think they go slightly lower then my SDA 2Bs but the 2Bs have more weight while still being pretty tight. -
does your 12B have a sl2000 tweeter? if so, call Polk Customer service and see if they have the silk dome replacements for them. If you have the peerless then forget what I said.
maybe check the passive radiator and see that it is relatively airtight, check for other leaks in the cabinet.
honestly, I had 12b's with the peerless and I never noticed a lack of bass. I traveled through alot of speakers since I had those, but I do miss them fondly, a nice warm speaker that is very pleasing to the ear.Living Room 2 Channel -
