How, in your OP, is the rtiA1, a better speaker than the rtiA3??? The 3 has a bigger soundstage,, and deeper bass, just curiouse,

Not really saying better...just that I like them. I will say that the A1 and A3 both gave other bookshelf speakers a great run for the money. Lucky here in the Baltimore/DC area. We still have a few stores like Gramaphone and Soundscape where you can audition speakers. I believe that Soundscape may have been the first store to offer Polk speakers way back when...
Don't forget to enjoy the music...

I have never heard the Moniter 40s, But the sound that my Rti a3's produce is quite enjoyable, I listen to mostlly music, and have no complaints with the a3's

Yeah I'm lucky to have a Fry's nearby. Nice for demos! You don't need demos for this one though (to me) - there is a good reason the A3's cost more!

Surfer - you're saying the only thing better about the a3 over the a1 is bass response? In other words, me who has a sub would get better quality from the a1's, and better imaging? I find that hard to believe. By that theory, you may as well get some tiny speakers with tiny drivers if less is more.

Also, by that theory, my csi a4 is better than the csi a6 (which is the clear favorite everywhere I have looked, including this forum). I think the 6.5" driver is superior to the 5.25" for more than just bass. Correct me if I'm wrong though. You guys definitely know way more than I do. I just keep hearing how the a6 is superior to the a4 (by a wide margin I might add), and the only difference I see is driver size (and in turn, weight, depth, and width).
If you read my post, thats my OP, when i A,B,ed my 2 bookshelves agaisnt each other,, The smaller midbass on the rt25i was cleaner, and imaged better,,, than the rt5,, which has the 61/2 driver, I never claimed That the RtiA3, was not as good, i said thats how i thought they viewed it, also, i never claimed, to know more than you, i dont think they did either,, its just a matter of OP, thats it,
Not an Audiophile, just a dude who loves music, and decent gear to hear it with.

I wasn't being facetious, I really don't know that much, and you guys know a lot.

I'm just saying that I find it hard to believe that the a1 is better than the a3 if you have a subwoofer in your system. The a3 must put out a bigger, better soundstage, right?

It's a subjective hobby. Don't doubt your own opinions and don't question someone else's (unless you can tell they're an asshat...and that isn't the case here). Everyone focuses on what pleases them most.

I don't think there is anything subjective here though... Is the only improvement over the a1 the bass response or no? And do 5.25" drivers really provide more detail and accuracy vs. 6.5" drivers?

It's really no different than arguing about which brand sounds better. Every speaker has a strength and weakness. It just depends on what you want out of that speaker that determines the "better" speaker.

    True dat.

As an owner who had both the RTi4 and RTiA3 in my rig at the same time for my own in-house demo - the RTiA3 came out on top for better soundstaging and 'sparkle'.

That's why folks need to get their own ears on gear and decide what is best for them.
