Sub woofer pre-outs....

I have the PSW 505 & its connected to a Sony STR-DA5ES receiver via one of the sub-woofer pre-outs on the receiver to the LFE input on the sub. My question is should it be connected to the LFE or the "line in" on the sub?
What it boils down to is whether the pre outs on my receiver are "filtered' or "unfiltered" I cannot find an answer in the receivers user manual. I have posted this question on Sound & Vision & AVS forums, as well as googled for an answer & no one seems to know!
Any guidance wood be appreciated, thanks.

From a google image of the back of your avr, there is only 1 sub out and so this would go to the LFE input on the sub and not the line level inputs.
This connection will put the bass management control on the AVR and you can disregard the control on the back of the sub.

Thanks. There are 2 sub pre-outs on my AVR and it is from one of these that I connect to the sub. What you may have been looking at are the analog 5.1 &/or 7.1 outputs that I use for my Blu ray player since this receiver (circa 2001) has no hdmi.
Anyway, I can assume then that the sub pre outs are filtered signals? My receiver has what is considered "limited" bass management. It has a cross over setting control for the sub and an LFE "high cut" filter, as well as a subwoofer level setting and an LFE mix level setting. Truthfully I'm not 100% clear on what the LFE high cut filter does and haven't got the the faintest idea what the LFE mix level is supposed to do.
Sony makes good AVR products (not great, but good), but their user manuals leave an awful lot to be desired.
I never worried about this stuff til I got the PSW 505 in December. the previous sub i had was so god-awfull that it didn't matter.
Thanks again. -

I took a quick peek at the manual (always a good thing to do ) and sure enough, your receiver has two sub outs - either one will work to your sub and yes it would be 'filtered'. The other is for a 2nd sub if your configuration has one.
