Is my receiver adequate for polk speakers?

I just bought a pair of RTI8's for $230. I was planning on picking up a pair of RTI A3's for $270 but then I found the floor standing pair and figured it was a better deal. I have a Yamaha HTR-5280. It's an older receiver but I was wondering if it is generally considered a "good" receiver - or should I be looking at upgrading in the near future? I don't need a subwoofer either.

The pair of RTI8's that I bought also don't have the feet or spikes or whatever. Is there any place that I can order these without spending a fortune?

Also, what kind of things can I do to get better sound quality - I am running my audio signal through an HEC equalizer that I had laying around and it seems to really make a nice difference. This is with low quality DJ type speakers through so I don't know if it would make a difference with higher quality speakers. Obviously I am not extremely picky about my audio equipment but this is probably because I have never actually heard high end audio systems.

Thanks.

Polk should have the spikes for you. What size room are you in? Where are you located?

I just sold my Yamaha HTR-5280 and I loved the sound that came from it. it should have no problem powering the speakers you have.. I powered a pair of RTI70s and CS3 center with authority. That receiver puts out plenty of power that's for sure.

Should be no problem. My friend is running Polk towers on an old Yamaha receiver and it sounds great.
