In the mid 90s I walked into a Primus concert right as the opening act was starting. Probably 20 people in the venue at the time. On stage is a dude with a KFC bucket on his head and a white mask and he's shredding the hell out of his guitar in a way I've never seen or heard before.

    That said...

Its hard to be a fan of pointless noodling (for me). As someone who plays guitar, his talent is remarkable, but he fails in tapping in to the soul and emotion of music. Its nothing I can sit and listen to for any extended period of time.

i'm with you on the pointlessness of shredding...but, the vids i saw were extremely emotive!

Buckethead is a great guitar player for sure he is more on the shred side of it , following the steps of Yngwie Malmsteen but still made more soft stuff than shredding , and he also was with G&R for a wile . For me is best album is Enter the Chicken . Just give it a listen and you might be surprised .

Interesting you should mention Bukethead; I recently picked up Monsters and Robots and was pleasantly surprised. Brian Carroll is a virtuoso guitarist, and apparently plays with a KFC bucket on his head. I think he was lead guitarist for Guns N' Roses too.
