Caught the last few bars of the song "Shameful Metaphors" from the group "Chevelle" on HD Net. Really great bass line and feel to the song.

Anyone follow them? Are most of their tunes like this?
It's funny as I was reading the Rush thread yesterday and Chevelle seem like another power trio.

Here is the clip I saw.

I would drive an old Chevelle while listening to Rush. I would never call Chevelle the band a power trio in the same likes as RUSH!!!!

They are OK I would never buy them....

Yes, not really Rush-like at all, but a great sound of their own nonetheless, IMO. They first caught my attention with this one:

    <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/gpyRI1j9t6c?rel=0&quot; frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

P.S. I always hate when people compare bands based on the number of musicians... like Rush and ZZ Top! "Power trio" is silly, when one thinks about it - what's the difference in sound between this and a quartet with a dedicated singer? Yeah, it's always kind of impressive when one individual can handle guitar and vocals. However, I think that one or the other (vocals or guitar) or both usually suffer somewhat in live performances. But then again, if that's what makes them what they are, then so be it.

Who compared them to Rush! I was not comparring them to Rush! Funny how things get twisted! :)

    I will try again!....

It was just funny as I had never heard of Chevelle before this. I was readng the Rush thread, shut down computer, turned on TV, flipped through channels and I see 3 guys rockin it out. That is what I meant by "power trio"! Reading about Rush on here and seeing Chevelle on TV!

Problem with 3 bands mates is that they use a lot of over dubs live and on records.

Thanks for the song link. I will have to investigate these guys. Cannot believe they have been out for 10 years and I missed them. I must have been under a rock. :(

totaly agree with mdaudioguy: I think that one or the other (vocals or guitar) or both usually suffer somewhat in live performances.

Here is my take on what Power Trio means and have meant to me over the years: Power trios started back in the 60's. You needed a lead guitar, a bass and drums; vocals were secondary, but not totaly out of it.

I did not invent the term but use and used it to describe the group Chevelle; which are a modern day power trio as was Rush and ZZ top from the 70's! Actually Rush started out as a power trio but with the introduction of syns and keyboards, strayed away from it. IMO "Hold your Fire" got them back on track again!

Hey, just realized you're from Canada! How about the "other" Canadian power trio - Triumph!?! I used to love them - I always thought they put on one of the most energetic (and underrated) live shows!

I am in South Western Ontario and they use to play the local bar scene back in the 70's. Saw them many times. Awesome live performances! Shaddy bar, packed with 300 people slamming their draft glasses on the table! Outstanding band. Rik Emmett was great back then!

One of the best memories from back in the late 70's was seeing Triumph and Saga and FM with Nash the Slash (not sure if you are familiar with that name or band) at our local bar. The walls were shaking!

Sounds like it was fun! I saw them three times in the mid-80s, at large venues, and they always brought a big show. Would have been good to hear them in a smaller venue, though. Yes, Emmett could bring it live. Quite a musician.

Wow, just looked up those other bands - the only thing that looked familiar was Saga - I do remember "On the Loose"!

I'd forgotten about these guys. I used to listen to them in the early 2000's. Seems like their music used to be a bit heavier back then. maybe not, it's been a while. there was a song called "the Red" that my buddy used to play over and over again. But theyre definitely a good power trio, and I much prefer them over Rush. But that's just my opinion.

Chevelle...pretty good band, I have two of their cd's which I haven't listened to in a while. I think I'll give them a spin. Thanks for the reminder.

Chevelle is ok, like a couple of their songs, not enough to buy al album though. I basically felt the same way about Seether.

It's one thing to be able to put a couple good songs together, its another entirely to be able to put a full good album together.

That's one of the main things I found when moving to progressive music, that whole albums tend to be put together with more thought and cohesiveness vs just a bunch of songs. I'm not saying mainstrea groups never do it or progressive groups get it right all the time, it's just mroe of a general observations.

Generally speaking, progressive guys like Pink Floyd all the way up through guys like Dream Theater and Tool tend to put out good albums that happen to also contain good songs, whereas the more mainstream groups liek Chevelle, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, etc don't seem to put out consistently good albums.

That's just my general experience, nothing more.

Good band. Probably my favorite Christian band. They have a Tool influence, but not in the same ballpark as Tool. Their debut album was alright, but the second and third they really started to shine. Unfortunately, I haven't heard much of them past that.

Well just an FYI Chevelle did consist of them being all brothers, one of them left (the bassist) and their brother in-law is now their bassist.

As for the band themselves I really dig them. I dont like their first CD, but their other three are really fantastic. Pete Loeffler the lead singer sounds so much like Maynard James Keenan it is sometimes scary.

And Chevelle is not a christian band. I had heard that too, but they were originally signed on a christian label that supported them.

Well I actually find that pretty cool. Christian or not I like everything about this bad despite me not liking anything mainstream for the most part. Looking forward to their next release, and tour.

    My favorite song from them.
