monitor 7 change

Good morning everyone,
I have a pair of monitor 7s both with damaged woofers. My question, is it possible or even desirable to install an active woofer in these speakers. I realize that the crossover will require changing. Is there an active bass driver that is compatible with the SL2500 tweeter and MW6502 mid?
Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

Mike-
I'm not sure I understand your ? correctly... if you are referring to the bottom 10" woofer you could pull it and see that no wire go to it since it is a passive subwoofer. I don't understand the science of how it works or helps increase low freq response but I know they are very effective in my Monitor 10's and 7's. If you are speaking about the 6 1/2 mid and it is damaged I would recommend a direct replacement. If you really do want to add an active 10" woofer to the mix well I'm sure it can be done but not w/o changing the crossover obviously and then it would be a shame to ruin a vintage wonderful Polk speaker.2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer. -
Those 10" passive radiators are usually plentiful on ebay. I have stocked quite a few of them. Monitor 7's (not incl. Monitor 7 Series 2) use part number SW101.
To install an active woofer would, as you say, require a crossover change. But would also necessitate using the mid-bass driver as a midrange-only driver. Then, you'd have to separate it from the woofer by building an internal enclosure to isolate it from the woofer's back wave. Otherwise, you "midrange" would become a partial passive radiator for your new active woofer. Now you have the issue of appropriate enclosure sizes for the midrange, and finding a woofer that will work and balance properly with the midrange and tweeter given the overall modified enlosure size. Etc., etc., etc. Can of ugly worms.....
