I stumbled upon some 9 year old Tyler speakers the other day - they are currently residing in my main setup...

This is definitely a step away from my traditional preference for main speakers.

These have a fourth order bandpass (I believe) bass cabinet, two internal eight inch woofers and two external bass drivers...

Stock they have a notch filter - which everyone here the other day agreed made them sound like s@#t... with a few quick snips of some wires and tucking them away - the sound greatly improved and we were on the right track.

The bass is not the tightest - I think alot of it is due to the fact the internal eight inch woofers are traveling through two 1.5" ports... lol! Either way --

The midrange is tight, the midbass is up in the air at this point

Highs are nice - I love the revelator tweeter.

Ill attach some pics - I love the design of these... definitely different and I like it. The last picture is going to be Ty's brand new version of this speaker -- scanspeak revelator, 6" seas excel and a 15" eminence woofer. I am not to sure about the 15" - seems a little odd to me!

I think the upgrades I am going to do the speakers is going to be xovers, diffraction be gone and No-rez, might try to find some flared port inserts for the bass cabinets... not sure...

Why is there a port for the upper section? Typically it's sealed. You would thing the upper cabinet wouldn't handle any of the lower frequencys.

Hmmm... the upper section is usually sealed when they are all one speaker...

    Example -

What I like about this set up is I can remove the monitors and use them as full range... hence I guess why he used a port...

Not real sure to be honest - just a guess :)

One thing to note is this is when Ty was -just- getting started and it shows. The difference between these and my super towers is pretty huge. With proper tweaking these speakers can rock - but stock I would give them a 6/10

15" drivers? damn, that man is apparently going old school.

definitely gets the "looks badass" award. gotta assume the man knows what he is doing. really want to get ears on them when they are out.

    Ty is definitely different.

His personal speakers had dual 18" woofers, 10" midbasses and a big **** horn.

I can tell you the amount of bass these speakers have is rediculous -- and they blend seamlessly to these ears...

I can only imagine the 15" will do the same. I am just curious to see how the audiophile public takes to them...

There are a lot of 'high end' companies using 12 and 15 inch woofers, a lot of flagship or statement product. Trey, don't let Eminence scare you, they can play fast, deep, and articulate, they aren't just guitar / pa speakers.

Ah I know - my buddy picked up the PD80 - I would like to hear them on some tube gear - but they are not sloppy that is for sure.

The eminence woofer he is using is the Lab 15" -- so not a pro driver I dont think. Atleast it does not have the accordian surround.

The Lab is a great woofer, can do around 600w continuous, high temp vc, good excursion, fast. It's a pro subwoofer essentially - and if it can handle that duty, it's going to be loafing for home audio. Cool.
