Tsi500 - Speaker size set to small or large?
I have the Tsi500s set up as my fronts, and to my ears it sounds better when they are set to large. I have done some reading and it seems that most people recommend setting them to small and let the sub (psw125) do the work. I am using an old RCA professional series AVR, and the sub is hooked up to the RCA preout and set to the plus setting.
The lowest crossover freq I can set is 100 to the large speakers and/or sub, so that's the lowest the TSIs will go if they are set to small. With them set to large I turned the sub off and they sounded fine, no distortion or anything.
If they sound better set to large, am I go to be ok? Or is there other compelling reasons to set them to small? My main concern is damaging the speakers etc. My AVR is rated at ~100w/ch.
Thanks in advance for any advice...

I would run them according to what sounds best to you. You wouldnt run them how some one else says they should be if they sounded bad would you?
I have been playing with my RTI A7's and onkyo 808 avr and they sound best around 60hz. If I set them lower then I dont get any bass out of the sub when listening to sources that do not have a LFE track. (like the radio).AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808
Amplifier: Carver A-753x 250 watts x 3
Fronts: Polk RTI A7 (modded by Trey VR3)
Center: CSI A4 (modded by Trey VR3)
Rear: FXI A4
Sub: Polk DSW Pro 660wi
TV: LG Infinia 50PX950 3D
Speaker Cable: AudioQuest Type 8

Most people will tell you to run them 'small' so as to use your amplification more 'efficiently' by letting a BIG BAD SUB do the LFE duties below 80hz? But I've tried that and I just don't like it in the same way that jbooker describes. I have an Onkyo 805 and I like to crossover a lot lower than 80hz on my fronts, almost at full range...but it's really all about what YOU hear.
I've tried running small and it's just too hollow sounding on some material for 'me' in 'my' room to 'my' ears.
No advice can be applied 'universally'!

Ive been in this boat since i bought my Rti10's.I went and upgraded my AVR from a Onkyo 608,to a Pioneer SC-25 for the true 140W per channel it gives, and ive been going back and forth as to what setting i should put the Rti10 small @ 80 hz,but i dont get the full range of the 10's, but if i put the 10"s on full range,i dont get the nice rumble from the Subs , if i set the Rti10s to small, i get the heavy bass from the powered subs, but no bass from the Rti10's.I just cant make up my mind,on whats sounds better...I guess it all about what"you" like in the end..Samsung PN50B550 Plasma

Thanks for the replies - my main concern was damaging the speakers... I figure for now, with the limited options I have on my old AVR, I will leave them to large. When I step up to a new AVR i'm sure everything could change.
