Pre-amp connection

I'm in the process of getting a new (used) pre amp (2 channel)and I am wondering if I can connect it to my receiver (using the receivers power amps) until I can afford the amp in a few weeks/months.

My manual says that the receiver can be hooked to an external decoder... Does that mean an external pre amp or just a decoder? if I hook my pre to the main inputs on the receiver do you think it will bypass my receivers volume control?

Here is myReceiver Manual the connection diagram is on page 14.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Yes, you should be able to IC your new Pre/Pro to your Yammie's processor inputs and all your sources to the new Pre/Pro. The Prepro will then be in control of switching, filtering, etc. The only issue that you will need to look into is the volume control. This may have to stay with your Yammie.

Check the specs for the Yammies external processor input voltage vs. your new Prepro's output range. If the Prepro has a higher output than the Yammie can accept, you might overload the Yammie.

If this is the case, you can set the Prepro's volume to match the level of a source direct to the Yammie, say its internal tuner. Then leave the PrePro's volume setting alone.

I did something similar many moons ago with a stereo Pre-amp in front of an integrated amp.

    Thanks Tour!

That's what I was afraid of, guess I'll have to be in agony for a few weeks while I wait for the amp purchase...

    Thanks again!
