db501 & db651s xover settings??

Ok so these forums don't have much related to car audio, it's mostly home audio. My question is regarding the xover settings for these speakers. i've played with the settings enough to where at certain points it sounds like crap to where I'm not getting any volume, and on the other side of the spectrum, I get distortion and too much bass from them. I want little to no bass coming from these speakers and clean crisp mids and highs. I am going to get an amped subwoofer for the lows, and the headunit has separate xover settings for that. The headunit is Kenwood Excelon KDC-X994. The xover settings can be found here http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/Manuals/113/113KDCX994.PDF on page 44.

The frequency response of the db501 is 65Hz - 22kHz
