Is it OK to put the sub in the back of a home theater room? A friend was asking and truthfully I am more of a music guy and don't know how much it matters.

Mad - Yes, that would be fine. Usually placement occurs where the sub sounds best. It is common for front placement, but there is nothing wrong with moving it to what best suits the individual.

You will get different sound from certain placement, as you know.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Sure!! The bass frequencies are non-directional so location can be just about anywhere. A simple means of finding the right spot for the sub is place it in your favorite seat position and then stand in different parts of the room. once you find the spot where the sound from the sub sounds the best, you simply place the sub where you are standing. Not very scientific, but it works!
