So I spent big money for this 52" LCD and Audio system so now I thinking about TV calibration. Does it make that much of a difference? You talk to the guys that do it and they give you the song and dance just to get you to spend the money. Have any one done it themselves without having to spend the $300.00 or spend the money had were glad they did or pissed off they wasted it?

You definitely need calibrate, most TV's are shipped in torch mode and a simple calibration cd live Avia will allow you to set it up to a proper standard. It will also increase the life of your set. Set it up proper and give it a couple of weeks to live with the look. It took me a little to realize that glowing reds were not normal in a picture.

Just do a simple google search for the model of your TV and a lot of people will go through the basic menu settings for a realistic calibration. It usually includes turning off all of the excess settings like DYNAMIC CONTRAST and that smooth motion crap and all that other jazz. Real life isn't saturated colors so why do TVs come that way. There is also another menu you aren't supposed to go into without it making your warranty void. I never felt the need to go in there and change anything, but that is what the $300 is for. They come out and hit some special buttons or hold a button on the remote that goes into the service menu for further calibration. I know because I saw it during a screen replacement on a bad panel on my TV. he tried to use it to show me my panel was fine, until about 13 pixels started flashing black on a white screen HAHAHA.
