    The real break through will come when they have the ability to stop a laser beam. Once a laser beam is shot, it goes on for a long time. That's why you wont see lasers used as guns for a while. Sure, it'll work for shooting a missile out of the sky, but you can't strap one to a fighter plane to shoot other planes. Even if it hits, it can still go through unlike a bullet which will stop or a missile which will explode.

    Once they get it to where they can shoot a high intensity beam that'll phase out over a reasonable distance, that'll be when it really becomes 'game changing'.

    Still, a very cool accomplishment!
