I tried to find the answers myself via google, but most of the answers are
not complete and are mere copies of other posts..
i have a universal player...it plays everything..I have a 2 channel setup..
I'm not a ht person.
I get sacd...redbook, sacd stereo, sacd multi...Im fine with that..It shows up on my player as such.
DVD-A... Is it Multichannel only via pcm? Any 2 channel?, maybe recombined multi into 2 channel? I almost bought a disc with dvd-a but couldn't find the answer and passed.
HDCD...I know Microsoft bought it and it has better resolution than redbook. .I just found out that a CD that I hadn't played since I got my univeral player shows up as hdcd.. Tommy Emmanuel "The Mystery" great acoustic guitar..
Again does it come in stereo and multichannel like SACD hybrids? It doesn't indicate.. I suspect it is stereo since it sounds so good. I want to avoid buying a multichannel fomat only and being pissed when I play it.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks

HDCD is 2-channel only. It is standard 16-bit redbook format with four "phantom bits" that can be decoded by the correct chip. There is no multi-channel version available./COLOR] My Rigs [COLOR="Red" Balanced Audio Technology | Revel | Dodd | Monarchy | PS Audio | MIT | Polk | Etc.

You can rip those 20-bit HDCD tracks to 24 bit FLAC using dbpoweramp and the HDCD plugin, btw.ALL BOXED UP for a while until I save up for a new place

Also, a HDCD-encoded CD or SACD (on its CD layer) may NOT be labeled as such. There're many such discs that don't have a HDCD logo on its packaging or on the discs itself. There're even discs where one song is HDCD-encoded and the next song is not.
