Hi,

I am in process of receiving Polk Monitor (70s,30s,CS2) and FXiA4s. I am thinking of replacing my old Velodyne sub with Polk sub woofer.

From reading Polk web page for Monitor 70 speakers, it recommends getting Polk PSW125 sub woofer.

However, I note that PSW505 which is more powerful costs about 1/2 the cost of PSW125. Note that PSW505 was the top of the line in its series, however, it was introduced before PSW125 was introduced (different sub model/series from Polk?).

Question:

1. From technological stand point, which sub woofer is better out of these 2?

2. For Monitor series speakers that I've, do you think PSW505 will match or perform as good (or better) than PSW125? Will it cause mismatch?

Please advise.
Thanks.

    1. PSW505 hands down no question

    2. Subs dont need to match anything else in the system. You could use another brand sub if you wanted. So while Polk recommends that sub, you can use the PSW505, a DSW sub or any other sub and it will not cause any mismatch.

So if you are going to stay with Polk subs, since the PSW505 is half the cost of the PSW125's my recommendation would be 2 PSW505's . That would allow you to help tame any possible null area's even at low level listening.

The only thing that really needs to be from the same line and brand are the front three speakers (Left/Right/Center) for timbre matching purposes. Surrounds can even be from different lines or manufactures.
