Hi,
I'm looking for a new receiver. The cheap/old Yamaha one I have at the moment is too complicated to use, at least partly because of lack of audio inputs! (It has only one optical in, so I use a manual optical switch to go between DVD and TV input. (My 5yr old Pioneer TV doesn't send audio out over HDMI - is that standard?))
Anyway, I'm looking for something at "modest" price that can handle connections from a TV, DVD player, airport express, Roku box). Easy to use interface would be a big plus. (My spouse is completely confused by my current setup, and I'm even semi-confused by my rube goldberg setup.)
Room is fairly large, just started up upgrading speakers and ordered some Monitor 70s for front speakers.
Thanks!

Most tvs don't send out audio over hdmi...you're talking about return audio channel. It's still very rare.

The Onkyo, like other similar things I glanced at on Amazon, only seems to have two optical inputs. This seems problematic if I want to connect TV, airport express, and potentially DVD player and a roku.
Am I missing something?
(Maybe I need DVD/bluray player with HDMI connector and don't worry about the roku??) -
I figured you wanted to use HDMI for audio, not optical....
Most new receivers with hdmi don't have more than 2 optical, it's getting rare. I just looked down the entire line of onkyos and they all have 2. Marantz too.Main Surround -
